    Drastic failure of AMSOIL EAA

Friend camped in National Park (while volunteering) for several weeks. Thought he had avoided rodents, unlike many neighbors. Some weeks later, he checked his air filter. Found the mice had made a beautiful blue nest, and severely damaged the filtration capability of the filter. He does not...

    Brake fluid tester

Shop owner told me about a salesman who dropped in to demonstrate a guaranteed money-maker for the shop. This is a hand-held brake fluid tester. The salesman said that one could dip it into any master cylinder, and virtually guarantee a fluid change sale. To prove his point, he asked for an...

    Honda lawn tractor, transaxle oil

Use synthetic 10W-40. There may be a reason the manufacturer didn't recommend gear lube.

    Oil Comparisons

For anyone who might be interested, AMSOIL just posted their latest round of comparisons of bench testing 10 different oils. You can find this on the company web site home page, lower right column. Looks like Exxon-Mobil did their homework on the Mobil 1 Extended Drain.

    Amsoil Bypass restrictor

Nope--I think there might be a chance of a slight decrease in oil pressure. You don't really have to super-filter all the oil every 1 or 2 minutes. So it takes 6-8 minutes--so what?

    Is my owner's manual right?

Keep in mind that the owner's manual was probably based on non-synthetic oil of the period. There has been major improvement in engine oil quality over the past 15 years.

    Air Cooled Engine Oil Spec?

Gee, what does your dealer stock/sell? Didn't know that B/S was making oil these days. Last time I spoke to B/S engineer, several years back, they had changed to 10W-30 recommendation, with approval for synthetic oil.

    New GM Dexron III spec

Interesting article in Infineum Insight, a fuel and lubricant additives industy journal. GM released the spec in April 03, and has now started approving fluids. Was going to be a Dexron IIIH, but trademark considerations made this unworkable. So, it will now be Dexron III labelled as "approved...

    Organic or Synthetic-Power Stroke Registry

I think most of you will get a charge out of the article. The author's premise is that the oil with the highest lubricity is the best, based upon a Falex-Timken Bearing tester.
