Amsoil SS vs. XL vs OE

let's start with I'm very biased, having been using and selling AMSOIL for almost 40 years, and using it in Saabs for that long. I recommend the SS--it give you and extra margin of safety in case of problems. A friend runs a shop that primarily services Scandinavian cars. He uses the SS as his...

    Europe & Low SAPS oils

Pablo is right. The speaker is not an AMSOIL employee, but a long time (and pretty successful) dealer. He also has taken and passed the tribologist certification. I suspect he just might know a bit more technically than some of those who post on the board.

Switching an old motor to Synthetic

Best flushes I know of are from AMSOIL and BG. There may well be some other good ones. A good flush will remove any easily removed sludge before the use of synthetic, which can do the same thing. Then the new filter would be less likely to become loaded prematurely. Comments are based on about...

Switching an old motor to Synthetic

I'd recommend using a good engine flush first. If you won't, or don't, then watch for sudden increase in oil consumption after a few thousand miles. If that happens, change the filter and top off. Depending on amount of sludge, may take a couple of filter changes. I'd start with something like...

    Should I Service The Tranny?

If you do drop the pan and change the filter and fluid, put a drain plug in the pan. Should be able to pick one up for a couple of bucks. Just be sure it doesn't interfere with anything. Then, the next time you change the fluid partly, or drop the pan, just pull the plug and let the pan fluid drain.

Amsoil HDD vs. ACD for shear stabilty

I wouldn't be concerned. Keep in mind that you are reading the C figures, not F.

    Best bang for the buck

We put an AMSOIL Bypass filter on a friend's farm tractor. He tested the oil every year. After 4 years, he called me and said that he had changed oil, even though the lab said it was still good. He said he just had to change it!

Check over your filters for shipping damage!

Just read a comment which said that Amazon recently went from UPS to USPS for (at least most) shipping. Commenter stated that while UPS driver would leave the package, USPS protocol is that package must be delivered to addressee or put into mailbox. Anything that won't fit will be hauled back to...

Ford "shudder" - unknown service history

Change at least the fluid in the pan and the filter. If that solves the shudder, consider changing the fluid to AMSOIL (or at least another synthetic) after another 10K miles or so.

    Mobil 3309 in AW55-50 A/T

There is a reason that SAAB states NOT to use a synthetic ATF version....it is due to seals and friction materials not being designed to work with it. Interesting comment. I've been using AMSOIL ATF in my Saab automatics since it came on the market some 30+ years ago. No problems yet in my...

Amsoil Saber 2-cycle oil and gas preservative?

The Saber with the Quickshot in it ids designed to protect for a season., not long-term storage. I'd suggest you mix no more than what you will use within a couple of months, though I'm sure it will last longer. You'll probably get better performance if you mix it at 85-100 to 1, as recommended.

Amsoil 10w40 compare in inboard 5.7liters

Yannick- There is a reason AMSOIL has formulated a marine oil. Go to their website and read the data sheet. One the the techs in a shop which uses a lot of AMSOIL just got a boat with a Volvo engine. We talked about, and he opted for the marine oil.

    Lubrizol CVT Additive System

AMSOIL has been working very closely with Lubrizol for as long as I can remember (over 30 years). I suppose one could call it white propaganda.

Last ditch fix - Additives for slipping automatic

Having towed a few Saab over the years--rent a tow dolly, have someone to help you push the car up on the dolly, and get it home. You don't want to be somewhere on the side of the road. If you want to change the fluid and try it around the block, do it at home.

What is your experience with Amsoil?

A highly scientific, well documented comment: Service manager at a shop just got a case of AMSOIL SS from me. I asked if he had used it before, in his Mercury with about 150,000 miles. Answer was yes, he had. Then he cheaped out and put in regular. On the same trip he had gotten about 26 mpg...

    Rear diff oil Volvo XC90

For some reason, AMSOIL states that they don't have a lube that meets the Volvo specs for that application. I'd use the Volvo spec stuff (which I did in my XC90)

What happened to Arco graphite motor oil?

I think it was primarily the color. For what it may be worth, it was an excellent tool for demonstrating the ability of the AMSOIL Bypass Filter of the day to remove particles--cleaned up the ARCO graphite.
