Honda 2 Blown Engines, Very Sour Taste

    1) Disable VCM with VCMuzzler or some other device 2) PCV change when B3 comes up (or 30k if you want to follow the odometer) Optional 3) Oil change when minder reaches 60% and 5%. Or if you let it run the full minder cycle and only change until it reaches 15%, 5%, or 0%, you need to check the...

Interesting pics I took of Pilot with VCM internal

I have been using the VCMuzzler on my 11 Pilot (VCM 2) since May 2015 (basically when it first came out). Gas mileage change is not noticeable - at most 0.1 mpg. Highly recommended. It is also extremely easy to install.

    Honda Pilot VCM Sludge

I have a 2011 Pilot with VCM. This is what I do now while not ignoring the the maintenance minder: a) change the PCV whenever B3 comes up, that would be about every 30k miles b) change oil when the minder shows 60% (ie 50-60% oil life) without resetting the MM. Then again at 0-5%, change oil...

Valve Cover Gasket Lifespan vs OCI

Does changing the oil more frequently extend the expected life of the valve cover gasket? More frequent means more frequent than manufacturer specified e.g. instead of 10k/1 year specified from manufacturer, change at 7.5k/6 months.

    Honda vsa codes

I don't know as I do not have one of those ODB2 gauges. There is a lot of info in that thread. Basically, if it doesn't reach 167, the computer will not enable VCM. So the resistor in series lowers the voltage enough to trick the computer into thinking it has not reached 167 yet...

Costco no longer selling kirkand car batteries??

I have just bought a size 35 Interstate from Costco. 640 CCA and 800 CA which is the same spec as a Mega-Tron Plus size 35. The Costco one has 42-month free replacement vs 30-month free replacement for the Interstate Mega-Tron Plus.

    Received an email from Purolator

I just replaced 2 Subaru filters made by FRAM which was recalled. https://content.subarunet.com/snet/_content/_attachment/oil_filter_snet_message.pdf I find it funny that people keep defending Purolator. From their replies, they will just let the defective filters run through its course even...

    Received an email from Purolator

It looks like even if Purolator can root cause the problem, they are just going to let the defective filters in the channel run its course. That is totally irresponsible. After reading about this fiasco, I am never going to buy any aftermarket filter. I use factory filters on my Subaru, and...

    Oil for new Subaru WRX

Even if it comes from the assembly line, it is the manufacturer's plan to want the moly to remain in the oil in the final delivered product. You see, if it is harmful, they could have added a step to do an oil flush to drain out the moly. Cost them labor and oil maybe $3-5 per car. Yes...

    Oil for new Subaru WRX

To me, it just makes sense to use a high quality OTC oil that will fulfill warranty requirements while it is under warranty. The UOAs with 5W-30 Subaru synthetic and PU are not "bad" per se. We all know about updated stuff having a NOACK of ~10 instead of ~5-6, so we need to keep a close eye the...
