    Understanding Tesla's Current Stock Valuation

My admittedly modest intersection with EV is the installation of a Tesla charger at our hose (full 60A capacity) and the ownership of a plug in hybrid. Plugging the car in takes seconds. Leave it for the night, get it unplugged later. Always ready. Never a line. No pulling in/out of a gas...

    Understanding Tesla's Current Stock Valuation

If all that tech was wrapped in a reasonably attractive package, I would be tempted. It’s got some great features and drives well. But that current, impractical, and ugly, body makes it a hard pass.

Fire on AA airplane in Denver

The training is performed in simulators with exits that work, or don’t, and smoke, noise and people who aren’t cooperating. It’s hard, and stressful. The commands are standard, and flight attendants must yell them out precisely as directed to pass the evaluation.

    Need a "new" laptop

I’ve had good luck with Dell. A refurbished Dell would be a good budget pick. My wife’s old Dell is over 12 years old, and still runs just fine. I got her a Dell XPS 13 a few years ago - super light, very thin, very fast, beautiful display. Costco had the best price by far. If you’re a...

    Need a "new" laptop

The original Space Shuttle computers were 32 bit machines running about 1/2 million instructions per second with KB of RAM memory, later upgraded to about 1MB and doubling the speed - your old laptop is far faster, with more RAM and is more than capable of launching the Space Shuttle! 😎

Fire on AA airplane in Denver

Also Devil’s advocate - Is the nebulizer worth the life of those several people delayed by your retrieval? In an actual aircraft fire, people live and die by seconds. Those people who retrieve their bags take seconds away from those behind them. Seconds in retrieving the bag, more seconds in...

Spanish F/A-18 demo pilot nearly wipes out beach crowd

I’m not sure that I am buying a “power loss” as explanation for the maneuver. At relatively high airspeed, like he was, the loss of thrust in one engine causes a modest yaw, and a modest resulting proverse roll. I believe he lost an engine, because only the left engine was in AB as he pulled...

Fire on AA airplane in Denver

Well - since Boeing doesn’t make tires - I fail to see the relevance. Perhaps you could talk to Bridgestone, or Michelin.

Delta pilot arrested in the cockpit at SFO

Different story - different arrest. The 74Gear (not 94) channel has a story about a Delta pilot arrested for intoxication, before flight, at the gate in Minneapolis. The linked story above is upon landing in SFO.

Battery / abs / low coolant light on when drive hard

18V will absolutely cause those symptoms! That’s way out of range. Let us know how it works with that new regulator.

Is this safe for caliper slide pins?

Not disgust at the product - disgust at the misapplication of the product. Works great if used correctly - but it is not a substitute for a lubricant, it’s lousy at that, and it is a terrible preservative. You know you’re dealing with an amateur if they apply WD-40 in hopes of doing anything...

    HPL SUPER CAR SAE 0W-20

LOL “so much” at 7PPM? Please. The oil is great. Use it with confidence. The aluminum is between 7 and 9 PPM (that is parts per million) for HPL. It’s a part of the additive - a catalyst, IIRC - and no cause for concern.

Would you buy a “New Car” that is 15 months old?

If the price is right - sure. But that price would be a very big discount off MSRP.

That’s what I was thinking - that voltage looks high.

Battery health %- when to replace?

When I gave my oldest daughter the 2002 Volvo (that she still drives) I got her a NOCO Li-ion jump pack. She was in St. Louis - well beyond the help range. She’s never used it, but she did use it to start two of her fellow med student’s cars.

Spark Plug Replacement Intervals - Why?

But that is the point being made - you will get no indications that they are wearing out until they take something else (like the coils) with them. They might be fine. I did the plugs (iridium) on the Tundra at 80,000 miles and they looked great. (Edit - the gap was greater, they had worn a...

Is this safe for caliper slide pins?

Because of ChatGPT? Yeah - look at the answer it provided. Complete garbage. It said “silicone” and offered up a completely ridiculous suggestion - something with silicone that won’t work well at all. It’s like asking ChatGPT what an engine needs, and it offers up “oil” and then recommends...
