    GM 4.3L air in coolant

My grandfather has a 1996 Chevrolet S-10 with the infamous 4.3L engine. A local mechanic replaced the Dex-Cool with Prestone. Now, there is a distinct gurgling sound from the heater core area, whether or not the heater is running. Is this cooling system self-bleeding? I could have sworn I saw...

2003 VW Beetle TDI - 12900 mile Delvac 1 sample with 113k on engine

This is from my dad's Beetle, with the 90 HP TDI engine. Analysis was done last week, the oil was in use about three months and 12,900 miles. The car sees almost exclusively easy highway driving.

    LC retreat rates

I've been adding 1 oz. of LC every 1,000 miles, but my oil level is currently a little above the "full" mark from doing this. I thought LC was supposed to "burn off" after 500-800 miles. Do the active ingredients just stop working but remain in liquid form? If I ran this oil 20,000 miles, I...

The short version: In my car, during my first test today, Fuel Power does not appear to function as an effective octane booster. The long version: My car is a 1999 VW Jetta GLS VR6, and specifies premium fuel with at least a 91 octane rating. In the past, I have run 87 octane without noticing...

John Deere mower deck gearbox oil

I have a John Deere 455 garden tractor with a 60" mowing deck. The deck has a gearbox which needs to be checked and topped off regularly. Deere makes two different gear oils. Not sure which I am using, but I think it's 85w-140. What oil brand and grade would you guys suggest for a deck gearbox...

Just got this report from Blackstone: I'm pretty impressed with how it held up. Any comments?

    Mobil 1 5-quart jugs

I found the last 5-quart jug of Mobil 1 5w30 at my local Wal-Mart, mixed in with the 10w30 jugs ($17.88). Of course, I bought it! I understand that many here feel the 10w30 is a better choice. But the 5w30 is what's recommended for all the vehicles in my "fleet," all of which are under warranty...
