Toyota Transfer Gear Oil 75W VOA

I just noticed that Redline has come out with this which looks like it is targeting the OEM 75W requirement (and other similar applications as well) for the Tundra transfer case. Mine is due for changing again, and they are now charging $69 per quart for the OEM Toyota fluid. The Redline is...

Any one else getting a server error logging into Blackstone?

I can log in, but I keep getting errors when trying to view PDFs of my previous results. I have tried two different PCs, and different browsers - same result.

Maybe I'm crazy - changing engine oil at 500 miles

My $0.02. It is a fact (at least, in 100% of every vehicle I have purchased new in the past 46+ years) that UOAs of factory fill oil show much higher than normal metals after a few hundred miles. It's a fact. What I cannot say is fact is how significant the higher levels of metals are in...

    Particle counts:

I am the BITOG member who conducted the study of particle counts with the various oil filter brands posted by paulri. I tried very hard to hold as many variables as I could constant while conducting that study. My conclusion was - the trends were not strong enough or consistent enough to draw a...

    2017 Tundra; Mobil 1 0w-20 9.7k mi

In my experience with 4 Tundras, Silicon stays relatively high until after the 30K miles mark. This oil started service around the 20K miles mark, so it's right on schedule...It's due to the sealers used internally

Amsoil/Redline Gear Oils and LSD Additive

In a Toyota 2006 Tundra, I had to add friction modifier to Amsoil SVG 75W90 to avoid LSD clutch chatter...

    Lexus GS350 ATF Service Advice

JeffKeryk, I eventually plan to change the ATF in my GS350 as well, but I have a few years before I reach enough miles. My question for you is on the first item in your list: How do you plan to safely "Lift and level the car"? This is the one thing stopping me from doing the procedure - I do...

The Drive : MOBIL1 Annual Protection failure ...

OK, now my curiosity is raised, as I love Annual Protection in the 0W-20 grade. You all are talking about the elimination of Annual Protection from the Mobil 1 product line as if it is a done deal. Where is this information coming from? It makes sense, given it HAS been a marketing failure for...

Starter Tool set - hand tools for professional work?

Hello everyone - apologies if this is not the right forum list, but it seemed most appropriate given the question... My son (26) has a new part-time opportunity to perform small-engine repair for a professional shop, but he must furnish his own tools. He currently does not own any tools, so he...

Using Oil Analysis to Determine Oil Filter Effectiveness

I tried using Blackstone's particle counts about 10 years ago to compare filters. I tried very hard to hold as many variables constant as I could, considering the vehicle was a daily driver. As hard as I tried, I could not get consistent results enough to reach any conclusions. The only thing...

    Alternative for Lexus Toyota WS

I've used Amsoils low viscosity ATF in multiple Toyota vehicles with no issues - including Camrys and Tundras

Does TBN matter for low miles longer time change intervals?

I wonder if a Marine oil might work well in this situation. Marine oils can contain extra rust inhibitors since those engines often sit in humid environments unused for periods of time.

Is there a "shortage" of Mobil 1 Annual Protection 0W-20?

Is there a "shortage" of Mobil 1 Annual Protection 0W-20?

Greetings, I have four vehicles, all either Toyota or Lexus requiring 0W-20. I have chosen Mobil 1 Annual Protection 0W-20 as my "standard" oil I use whenever it's oil change time. This weekend, I went to three different Wal-Marts in my area. Normally I get the 5-quart jug. None of the three...

90W for Toyota and Lexus Rear Differentials?

Note that some of these sedans have differential capacities of barely over one quart. My 2017 Lexus GS-350 calls for 75W-85; I use 75W-90.

2006 Tundra, 50K Miles, Amsoil ATL

FYI, I sold this truck almost two years ago, to someone I know. It now has over 250,000 miles on it. The only problems it has - it needs oxygen sensors, and it's starting to seep oil from one of the valve covers. New owner is very happy with it.

Ever had a transmission fail? On what vehicle?

I have had two. 1) 1985 Chevy S10 Blazer with the infamous 700R4 transmission. At least it waited until about 120,000 miles to crap out. It required a complete overhaul. 2) 1998 Ford Windstar LX. Transmission was faulty from the beginning. At low speeds with part-throttle acceleration, it...

    PQIA M1-AP results

My impression is that the 0W-20 grade of M1 AP is much better than M1 AP in the 5W-30 grade. I have no real evidence to back this up, though. Anyone else have the same impression or am I insane?

    Amsoil Signature 0W-20, 2015 Tacoma, 10.3K miles

OK all, let me tell you my perspective on the oil change interval specified by Toyota for the 2015 Tacoma. The model discussed in this UOA is a 2015 Toyota Tacoma V6. This is the last model year this specific engine was offered - the truck underwent a total redesign for the 2016 model year...
