ATF change 2012 BMW 335is; dealers say never do

UPDATE: After a few months and a few thousand miles, the transmission has been working quite well. It did get another drain and fill of the MaxLife ATF and the equal ratio of Lubegard Red bottle. The shifts are quicker and not as harsh, but this may be as the original fluid may have been wearing...

ATF change 2012 BMW 335is; dealers say never do

Thank you for the clarification of 'approved by' and 'meets the spec'. You are correct. However, BMW or/rather ZF/GM give their stamp of approval for the LubeGard, from my research and phone calls. I understand it may be the only additive approved, but it states it as such. I also understand...

ATF change 2012 BMW 335is; dealers say never do

The total was $67.14. I provided the ATF and the LubeGard additive. Three gallons of Maxlife ($17.87 each) and $9.99 for the LubeGard.

ATF change 2012 BMW 335is; dealers say never do

Thank you for the replies. The MaxLife ATF is approved from Valvoline as meeting the spec, and the LubeGard is approved by the OEM as approved for the transmission. I think MoleKule has spoken well of LubeGard. Again, thank you!!

ATF change 2012 BMW 335is; dealers say never do

UPDATE: The BMW dealer was not willing to change the ATF, so I used the Ford dealer, lol. After two drain and fills with 10 quarts of MaxLife ATF plus one bottle of LubeGard Red, the transmission shifts great. It never had an issue, but I wanted to perform regular maintenance. The fluid that...

ATF change 2012 BMW 335is; dealers say never do

Thank you for adding this. It is a 335i sedan with a sport appearance and yes the PPK. I was told it was a sport model, but that's the appearance package, I see, with full black kidney grilles, some dealer added body moldings and the such. I am sorry for the mess-up, and thank you for the...

ATF change 2012 BMW 335is; dealers say never do

Thank you very, very much for taking your time to share your experiences and thoughts about this. After reading all of the great information, I will certainly change the transmission fluid and filter and check the O-rings. The brand of fluid, yet to be decided, haha. OE is very expensive, so...

ATF change 2012 BMW 335is; dealers say never do

I am asking for any experience regarding the transmission fluid for this vehicle, 2012 BMW 335is automatic trans. It is at 50,000 miles and 5 years old, and I wish to change the ATF, but the dealer nearly refused to do it, fine. I called two other dealers and the service mgrs were in agreement...

    2006 Lincoln Zephyr - ATF

I had a 2008 Mercury Milan with a 3.0L paired to an Aisin 6 speed auto trans, which I believe is the same as the Lincoln you're asking about. It was a very good powertrain and fairly easy to do ATF changes, either draining from a plug on the trans, or by sucking it out through the fill hole...

Ford Fusion 6 speed auto drain and fill (pics)

Also- I have tried both Lubegard Red and Lucas transmission additive in the AW transmissions. The Lubegard Red is my personal preference as it seems to noticeably maintain the smooth operation.

Ford Fusion 6 speed auto drain and fill (pics)

dwcopple- I have had great luck with Maxlife ATF in two AW F21 transmissions,in an 07 Montego and an 08 Milan. Much like you reported, the shifts are smooth, crisp and solid, upshifts and downshifts. The OEM fluid had harshness and a rough feel I didn't like. So far, both vehicles have driven...

just curious: who's using Maxlife in T-IV app?

I have used it in 2, an 08 Milan and 07 Fusion. Both have AW 6spd. The shifts are great and seem less harsh during wide open throttle. The maxlife ATF hasnt become burned and dark nearly as fast as the Toyota TIV. I have been very pleased. The maxlife is a higher quality ATF and less $$. I...

    Fusion 100,000 mile maintenance??

I drive an 08 Milan 3.0 and found the fuel filter is part of the pump. I used NGK Iridium IX and have been pleased. Even if the plugs are good, it's a good maintenance item to do at 100000, as they can become stuck in the head if left too long. I recommend flushing the ATF a few more times..that...

    2008 Mercury Milan Tranny Drain/Fill

I have been using MaxLife ATF in the Milan. A coworker has it in her ford 500. It works great! The price is very good for synthetic ATF too. The Toyota type IV is group I base stocks. I was advised from this board to at least add Lubegard red to the OEM fluid.

    2008 Mercury Milan Tranny Drain/Fill

The transmission seems to discolor the ATF faster than usual. It doesn't have a filter; perhaps that's why. I really like using Maxlife ATF, as it is synthetic and rEcommended for Toyota T-IV applications. It was suggested to me to use Lubegard red if using the OEM fluid as the ATF lacks...

    2008 Mercury Milan Tranny Drain/Fill

What kind of MPG does your Milan return? The one I drive varies a lot. Summer hwy is 29-33, winter hwy 26-30. City is 20-23. I really like the vehicle; it's a pleasure to drive. I am curious as to how the 2.3 4cyl compares.

    2008 Mercury Milan Tranny Drain/Fill

It is usually 3-4qts, generally closer to 3.25. I assumed everytime would be 4 and overfilled it once. The trans went to limp mode and the wrench and traction control lights came on. After checking, it had nearly 1qt too much ATF. The amount varies a bit depending on how hot the trans is at...

    2008 Mercury Milan Tranny Drain/Fill

I also have a 2008 mercury Milan V6. I have used Maxlife ATF for several drain & fill procedures. The transmission works very well. I also added a bottle of Lubegard Red. The shifts are more smooth and refined. With the Ford Premium ATF, the shifting was a bit more harsh. Either way, adding a...

post your latest transmission lubricant change.

And. 2008 Mercury Milan. 50000 miles. 6spd asian warner trans. Maxlife ATF. The trans works much better with this ATF than the garbage Ford premium ATF/Toyota T-IV/Mobil3309 ATF. The trans also may be hard on ATF, as it becomes dirty and brown quickly. Perhaps the Maxlife is cleaning. It...
