Buying things that will last you the rest of your life.

I recently went crazy on cookware that should outlast me. Cuisinart Custom Clad 5-Ply cookware set and the separates. Never held pots and pans so solidly built. We shall see if it outlasts me. I also picked up some stuff from Cuisinart's Multi Clad Tri Ply line. That seems to be solid as...

    Beware The Ides of March

When I saw "The Ides of March", this was my immediate thought. Especially considering the subject matter of this forum.

Any benefit to one top tier gas over another?

Use whichever one your vehicles run best on. My 4 cylinder vehicles tend to "like" Citgo, Valero, Exxon/Mobil and Marathon the best. However, sometimes this may vary by season. I notice lots more engine vibration and occassional stumbles when the the fuel isn't an optimal one for the vehicle...

Any tearing issue on FL820s 2023

I wouldn't use it. However, Motorcraft has updated their filter. Perhaps the new one is better. I believe it's FL-2122.

RockAuto Spark plugs legit or counterfeited?

Rock Auto is the only place I've bought spark plugs from for at least the past 15 years or so. I can't remember a time since the mid-2000's in which I haven't bought spark plugs from Rock Auto. In fact, I actively seek out my preferred spark plugs on clearance.

Anyone still using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum?

I still use PUP 5w-20 faithfully in my Elantra. 127k miles. I did try Supertech 5w-20 briefly and used regular PP when I could not find PUP anywhere, but 98% of the car's life has been PUP 5w-20.

    Manual Transmission Flush

As for flushing, play it safe. Do a few short term drain and fills with properly spec'd lubricant. Something like every 90 days for a year if driving regularly. It's more costly, but there aren't any regrets tied to this approach.

Road tripping. Which type are you?

It depends on the type of trip and the urgency (or lack thereof) to get there. When I used to drive from NC to southwest Louisiana regularly, I'd pack two coolers. One full of sandwiches prepped the day before and one full of drinks. Also, a bag full of snacks. Had no need to stop other than...

    Maintaining a beater?

I agree with the post that says "fix that thermostat". Also, look for discounts on quality parts (prices that don't hurt your wallet) and fix it over time. However, with regards to that thermostat, I would definitely fix that. Get some cheap DOT 3 brake fluid and flush out the old brake fluid...

Have you grown to dislike working from home?

I prefer working from home. I am constantly interrupted whenever I go into the office. Plus, I tend to work longer or odd hours working from home. Definitely wouldn't go into the office at 2am, but have no problems logging in from home at 2am.

Looking For a Good VoIP Phone

I have a MagicJack and have been using it for about ten years. The key to it working well is having a good internet connection. If your internet quality is half-baked or the speed isn't all that great, the MagicJack will be bad. Otherwise it works great. The other quirk is that it seems to cap...

Fort 5.4 Triton - higher viscosity oil v/s redesigned parts?

Not sure if it adds any value to this thread, but I run Euro 5w-40 in my 5.4 3v engine. Starts up and runs just fine. Even in the freezing cold. Also, I noticed that the engine is overall much quieter and smoother with the Euro 5w-40 as opposed to when I used 5w-20. It's especially noticeable on...

    Grapeseed oil, $3.88 for a 12 pack…

I've read that refined grapeseed oil is very good to season cast iron pans with.

    Brined turkey

Has anyone ever tried using that brining bucket? It is new to me. I recently saw it on a YouTube video. It has notches where you can put a "stopper" on the inside so that the turkey (or other meats) do not float above the brine.

    European Formula oil

I run Euro oil in my 2006 Ford F-150 King Ranch. Engine seems to run smoother and quieter than with other oils. No problems whatsoever to report. Will continue to run it in the truck. Strongly considering changing my 2003 Ford Focus ZX3 over to Euro oil after my current stash runs out.

Does All Brake Cleaner Clean the Same?

There is a difference. It's not in your head (although I'm sure someone will chime in and say it is.) I use cheap stuff for general cleaning. When I need spotlessly clean (such as preparing a surface for a gasket or sealant that keeps a fluid in), I use the deep cleaning stuff.

What is your go to shave soap/cream?

I wash and rinse my face twice with Shea Moisture bar soap (it rinses off very clean) and then I use Walmart Equate sensitive skin shaving cream in the can. That makes the shave uneventful, smooth and most importantly no razor bumps, irritation or nicks. I shave once or twice a week, since I...

    Anyone here smoke?

I have a few smokers, but what I smoke on primarily is a kettle grill. It's extremely convenient. I put a Lavalock gasket around the lid where it sits on the body of the grill. This ensures I have 100% control over the temperature. I drilled a hole on the same side as the vent tube (smokestack?)...

    What Is It?

Lol, I was expecting to see an image of an intact FL820s when I clicked on this thread.
