    New Honda Generator Oil Questions

This post was timely. I just bought the same generator as a backup for our standby unit. I have a lot of Honda equipment and I use AMSOIL small engine oil in all of it after breaking them in on Honda’s Power Equipment oil. Some may disagree but I like the idea of an oil designed for small...

Did RISLONE Kill My Honda EG650??

This... compounded by the fact that the very nature of their existence means that maintenance is often ignored. They are often run in emergencies on the worst/busiest periods of people lives. Unfortunately if you didn’t own it from new there is just no way to know what sort of life it has had.

Zero turn recommendations for hilly yard

Kubota z200 is in your price range with room to spare. Upgrade to the 48in model and you get the 3100 series hydros and it will be $700 over budget. I have had a z121s (previous model) for a few years and it has been great. Best way to test on the hills is call a dealer and try one out on the...

pressure washer, electric or petrol engine?

I liked my Ryobi electric pressure washer but I got tired of having the unit anchored to the house at two separate points (electricity and water). It made it inconvenient to move around so I bought a gas unit and it has been great! With either the pump will go long before the engine/motor.

    Knock Knock, Who's There GCV190

Without hearing it in person it is hard to know. It could be the clutch. I am not familiar with how the newer style rotostop works but the older style had bushings and when they wore it would knock a bit. If you have access to some plastigage I would measure the rod clearance to the...

Kei Hin / Honda Carb Main Jet Stuck

If they are really terrible and must come out use a screw extractor and pickup a replacement jet.

Is Honda Xenoy / Nexite decks a joke?

The biggest causes of failure I have seen on the shaft drives is actually due to the axle support bearing on the rear wheel adjuster wearing out. This places a load on the axle bushing surface in the transmission and usually destroys the axle seals allowing the fluid to escape. The other is the...

    Plastic Float Full of Gas

Found my first “sunk” plastic float just the other day myself. It is unusual in my experience but not impossible.

    17in Honda Mower

Thank you. The pull cord runs inside of the main tube of the handle. I’ll get some pics of it tomorrow as well as the little 76cc engine. The HR215 has a few upgrades. I added electric start off a junk mower that was totally worn out but had all of the electric start components in working...

    17in Honda Mower

Wanted to share my latest project. It is a Honda HR17 from the early 1980s. It's in good shape and appears to have had very little use based on the compression test and the wear on the blade clutch and wheels. It surged a bit but a thorough carburetor cleaning fixed it up. I have ordered a few...

    1980's Honda GXV120 - Burning oil.

I agree that the cylinder should be honed as part of the ring replacement process. I was just pointing out that it is iron and that in my experience with the engines replacing the rings fixes the smoking.

    1980's Honda GXV120 - Burning oil.

I have been inside many of these engines. The GXV120 has an iron bore. A re-ring should fix you up as long as the wear isn’t crazy and you don’t have a lot of valve guide wear. Pop the new rings in the bore and measure the gap in a few places. I don’t have the spec to hand but if it is tighter...

Thumbs Down to Stihl, Hello Echo

Any equipment make may have issues. Either with the machines themselves or with dealer distribution. I have had lots of flawless Stihl equipment. I have had lots of flawless Shindawa, Echo, and Maruyama equipment. I have also had issues from each brand. Unfortunately there is no perfect...
