    ATF in Ford MANUAL transmission???

2002 Ford F-150 5 speed manual transmission. Anybody know why Ford says to use ATF in their manual transmissions? Seems like ATF would be too thin for the job. What about using a thin gear oil instead, like Redline MTL 70w-80?

    AMSOIL now meets VW 505.01?!

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/afl.aspx Looks like Amsoil 5w-40 now meets VW 505.01. Yet now it only meets API CF when it used to meet API CI-4. What's up with that? Why is it an oil that's made to meet 505.01 can't also meet CI-4?

Which Amsoil oil best handles soot?

1.) Which Amsoil oil is best at handling soot? 2.) Is a 0.4% increase in soot a big increase? Can it make a big difference in an oil analysis? On my oil analysis using Amsoil 15w-40 I had 0.3% soot and Iron was 49. On my next analysis using Amsoil 5w-40 soot was up to 0.7% and Iron was up to...

What exactly is TBN and how is it measured?
