How does Heat NOT affect Oil selection? 0W-30 vs ?

Put a quart of 20W50 and a quart of 0W30 in your zero degree freezer and try pouring them once they've chilled down. Very unscientific but dramatic especially if you pour them through a viscosimeter.

What cars come standard with oil gauges?

Be careful with oil pressure gauges! My '06 Mazda MX-5 has a gauge, but it reads a computer simulation of oil pressure. It responds to RPM and will go to zero in the absence of pressure, but thats it! It does not respond to oil viscosity. I didn't believe this until I checked it out.

    Subaru Forester and synthetic oil

'03 Forester. Put Mobil 1 5W30 in after 3K mi and haven't looked back. At 60 K mi uses less than half quart between 5Kmi changes. Proper coolant is the issue, NOT synthetic oil. How does a car "not like" an oil?
