    I'm finally retired!

Congratulations! I've been retired for 4 years now and don't regret it at all. From this point on, "Every day is Saturday!"

    Tundra Owners Chime In

Owners manual recommends changing at 100K. I took my Tundra to the dealership and had them do it at 80K. Early but they had a service special at a very good price. In the big scheme of things, it's cheap. Do it!

think i got scammed this weekend. LOL

Good chance they were doing it to capture your CC information. They just harvest a bunch of CC info and disappear. It's then sold on the dark web. Watch your CC. You might start seeing some $1 charges from random locations.

    Sooty Oil in Ford Focus

What? Do you think I told the dealership to use cheap plugs? It's not relevant but my daughter was in town for 6 hours. I was able to get her car in for the 100K service. There was no way I could figure out what needed to be done, round up the parts, do it in 6 hours and spend time with my...

    Sooty Oil in Ford Focus

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The UOA was done on the previous oil change. It was this latest oil change that was sooty smelling and very black. I have never seen that in her car before. Oil filter is the Fram XG3614. My thought about the plugs is that if the dealership used the cheap $3 plugs...

    Sooty Oil in Ford Focus

Hi Guys, just wanted to bounce some thoughts. I haven't seriously worked on cars for decades so I know I'm missing something. Daughters 2007 Ford Focus with the 2.0L gas engine. It currently has 156K miles on it. She lives in another state and visits 2X a year. While she's here, I have been...

    Happy Father's Day

Gift from youngest daughter. And, yes, I do change everyone's oil. It's one way of making them visit.

    Is it Router or Comcast?

JustinH, thanks, that was the first thing I thought of. But on the Netgear 6300, I cannot update on my own. The update has to be pushed by Comcast. Netgear said they give the updates to Comcast, they tweak it to their system and then push it out.

    Is it Router or Comcast?

Thanks. I went in and found the signal strength. Did a screen shot and now waiting for the next failure.

    Is it Router or Comcast?

Thanks for the reply. I'm in a suburban residential area. Our cable line is above ground and runs to our house from a wooden pole on the street.

    Is it Router or Comcast?

Not that computer savy so looking for your thoughts on internet dropoffs. I live south of Tacoma and have Comcast internet and TV. It seems lately I have been having internet outages that have been lasting from 10 minutes to an hour. Perhaps once every two or three days for the last 3 months...

    Gas mileage increase after break-in?

I use an auto maintenance app that tracks my MPG. My Tundra with the 5.7L engine was averaging 14 mpg during the winter and 15 mpg during the summer. That is, until I hit 50K miles. It started to increase from there and now I'm averaging 17-19 mpg year round.

    Sleeping with a CPAP machine

Completely agree! When I first got my APAP machine, I struggled with it. I would often wake up and take the mask off. But I gradually got used to it within a few weeks. One night I went to bed with the mask on and slept thru the night. Now I can't sleep without it. The wife is very happy...

    Movie Theaters Too Loud?

I started going back to theaters a couple years ago and noticed the volume was really up. I asked the manager and he said it was to discourage people from talking on their cell phones during the movie. Whether true or not, I did notice that no one was chatting away on their phone. I did...

    Oil sampling tube

+1 on Amazon. I have the Blackstone Lab pump too. I bought a couple 25' rolls of 1/4 tubing from Amazon and just cut to length as needed.

2012 Camry ATF change- now or later?

It's all depends on your comfort level. I had the fluid changed in my 2011 Tundra a few months ago for the first time. I had 70K miles on it at the time. I trust my local dealer and I asked the tech if the fluid looked good. He said it looked fine and as expected. I asked him if I should have...

    Vacationing alone

Do it! When I retired I went on a 2 week road trip by myself as the wife was still working. I drove south along I-5 and skipped all of Oregon. I stopped in Yreka, CA for the night. Made it to Monterrey the next day and spent a couple days there. Then drove down the coast to San Luis Obispo...

Cleaning deceased MIL condo and found $15K cash

I think as people get older they tend to feel more comfortable with cash in hand. It's a tangible "hold it in your hand" proof that you have money to buy food. I notice that my dad got that way as he got older. The older he got, the less he trusted banks and credit cards. He's now suffering from...
