Did a piston soak on the 18 Kia 2.4L this weekend

The oil consumption has gotten crazy on this car. I ended up ordering a can of the ACDelco spray Top Engine Cleaner. I removed the plugs and foamed all 4 cylinders with the spray. I went out every hour or so and filled them back up. I would turn over the engine a few turns every time as well...

How to store filters with no box?

I received a few ACDelco filters from Rockauto with no boxes. I always keep my filters in the garage on a shelf, but in boxes. I know the boxes don’t do much, but they keep the dust off at least. Right now I just have them open side down on the shelf to keep them clean inside. Anything I should...

AC low side really high pressure?

My kids Kia is blowing warm air. It gets a little cooler, not cold, at highway speeds. When I had the front end up on ramps during the last oil change it was blowing cold like that? I bought a 1234yf recharge kit and when I put it on the low pressure side with the AC on max, I’m reading between...

How hot is too hot for ATF?

My wife’s XT6 had a horrible shuddering problem. The dealer ended up replacing the torque converter and all of the valves in the 9T50. I assume that the torque converter died and sent crud through the valves. I never really paid attention to the temps before the repairs, but now it seems to run...

    New Cross Climate 2

It’s been about a month now since I put these on my wife’s XT6. Went with the stock size, 235/55R20 H rated. I’m very happy with them, the wife doesn’t really notice a difference. I glad to report that they a no louder than the OEM Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires I pulled off. Those were down to...

6L80E OEM filter cut open @60,000

Changed the fluid and filter today. Figured I’d jimmy this filter open for some pics. This is the OEM filter at 60,000 miles. I did suck out 6 quarts of fluid around 30,000 miles and put fresh fluid back. I didn’t touch the pan then. There is some metal shavings where the filter bends (where the...

Goodyear Reliant Tires for the kid

Needing some tires for the kid‘s Kia, I couldn’t beat the price on these Goodyear Reliants from Walmart. Everything online said they were made in Mexico, these are stamped made in USA. Tread measures at 11/32”. I think these will serve her well. They have a 60,000 mile warranty, enough to get...

2018 Silverado 5.3 weird sound on cold start, mourning dove sound?

Turns out it’s the fan on the bulb. Man, I feel like an idiot! When I unlock and when I start my Silverado when it’s cool, it sounds like a mourning dove is behind my pass side headlight? Nothing is obvious that I can find? The air box is there, but no idea why it would make that sound before I...

‘New’ CPO 21 Cadillac XT6 Premium Luxury for the wife

We traded her 17 Volvo XC90 today for a CPO 21 XT6. The Volvo was out of warranty and starting to cost us a little too much. It’s not as quick as the Volvo, but it’s way quieter and rides a lot better than the XC90. We did love the Volvo, but the XT6 looks a lot like it from the side. I hope it...

    PEA and stainless exhaust tip?

Quick question, I have some Redline and Techron in the garage and a lot of carbon on my stainless exhaust tip. Would a PEA cleaner easily remove that carbon? Would it harm the mental at all? I usually use a metal polish and some elbow grease, but I was thinking about some PEA and a rag today.

What do these sparks plugs say?

These are out of my kids 2018 Kia Sportage with 88,000 miles on it. It has been burning about a quart of oil every 1,500 miles or so. That has slowed way down with the HPL EC cleaning to about 1/2 quart every 2,000 miles. It’s been running rough so I did a CRC DI spray cleaning and changed the...

BF Goodrich Trail-Terrain T/A my initial impressions

I needed new tires a couple weeks ago, and with the deals that Sam’s has on BFGs, I decided on some Trail-Terrains in the stock size, 265/65R18, for my Silverado. There’s not a lot of reviews on them, and the TireRack review is of them on an Audi crossover. I took that with a grain of salt since...

    Pirelli Scorpion All-Terrain Plus feedback?

I’ve been looking at all terrains for my Silverado, and Sam‘s has these for a great price with instant savings. $818 installed out the door for a set of 4. I’m mostly on road with slight off-road. The tire rack reviews seem really good for them, I’m just looking for someone who has ran them...

    Closed vs open shoulders?

I’m beginning the process of looking for new tires for my truck. I’ve always bought open shoulder lugs since, in my mind, they wouldn’t hydroplane as bad. I came across this new tire from BFG and the shoulders are closed. Is my open shoulder idea just some BS that I made up somewhere in the...

    Sway bar bushing question

My Silverado front sway bar bushings are making noise since it’s gotten colder here. I’m going to replace them, my question is should I apply some silicone lube to them or just install them dry? It seems like the silicone would help keep this from happening again?

    PF63E cut open 5,000 miles

Not much to see here, but I like to cut them open and post pics ;) Came off my Silverado at 5,000 miles with M1 EP 0W-20.

Kia OEM cut and post 5k

This is from the last 5k OCI on the Sportage. Oil was ST Syn High Mileage 10w-30. Normal Kia/Hyundai filter, built like a tank!

    PH6607 cut and post 5k

Nothing to see here. I normally run the TG6607 but they were out so I went with the orange can. The pleat spacing stinks, but it held up fine. The blue spec in the second pic is a piece of the Kia filter I also cut. This is from my daughters Sentra running Edge 0w-20 for 5k.

    89 cheaper than 87?

I went to fill up my wife’s car for the week and saw this. Her car takes the 93, but even that was only $0.10 more than the 87. I’m guessing they’re trying to move the high octane fuel. Either way it was a nice surprise.
