    The AT&T maze

It's now Sept. and Rat&t is still unable to straighten out and correctly ID my ADSL June statement. The old POTS went from $20 to $25 to $30-something and ADSL jumped from $20 promo-rate to $56/mo for 6Mb/s. Ratt thinks this rational. Their own CRD reps don't understand a 'bit' from a 'byte'...

    BBQ Cart Nearly Finished

After searching near & far, I finally found a set of plans that I liked and met my needs. Far too many were just flimsy without decent storage or a large enough top. I even looked locally for something already built. More of the same: incomplete, $$$$, imported junk. The design I chose has...

Source For Automotive Wire & Connectors

Impressive collection of automotive connectors, insulated & non-insulated crimp-on's, wire, tools, battery cable, etc. I could have used such a source when attempting to replace a cracked wire harness connector with inner vinyl weather seals that heat & time had turned to gummy mush. They stock...

    Tire Bead-Rip Repair

Is this possible? Still plenty of tread left. Tube popped while neighborhood riding. I fix the tube, inflate and notice a bulge coming out of the tire side, close to the bead. Remove the tube and patch from the inside with UL-181B (commercial grade) duct tape. Reassemble...it still bulges...

    A/C Restored

Finally got this fixed after several days of no A/C, during a cen. Tx heat-wave. That was brutal. Interesting that during this extended outage, the max. indoor temp reached was 92F. Indoor humidity rose to around 56%. Daytime temps were 104 - 110F. Solar heat index around 135F each day. Watering...

    Small Coolant Leak @ Radiator

The Sled has a small coolant leak on the passenger side oil cooler line fitting just a bit below the upper coolant hose. It appears to be weeping from the joint with the end tank. Indy said to use Bar's Leaks Radiator Stop Leak Concentrate. I used about half a bottle. It leaked less for...

    Q For Old-School TV Repairman

My 1990 JVC 36" TV began temp. arcing while the air-cond was out. Temp & indoor humidity were quite high. It's never arced previously. Eventually it refused to light. Given its size, I'm guessing the HV side is around 36kV. It's been awhile since I pulled the rear cover and cleaned the fine...

C-47 Crash on Take-Off in Burnet, Tx

This is a tragic loss of a C-47 historic airplane "The Bluebonnet Belle". Fully fueled, carrying 14 passengers, headed to Oshkosh. A couple were injured, one with serious burns. The aircraft is a total loss. From the video, it looks like the pilot attempted take-off before the wings were...

    HVAC Compressor Quit

Not sure if it's Tango Uniform yet.... Earlier, I heard this loud BANGING noise outside. Discovered it's coming from the outdoor unit. Turns out a two-prong plug on the fan motor came loose, got caught in the fan blade, causing the racket. {This is not the wiring running from the motor to...

    Q: CD 'rip'?

Trying to streamline this process. When I was using a Sansa Clip player, it was rather straightforward (after I'd figured out WMP (PITA)). Problem is now the Sansa player battery will no longer hold a charge so it's Tango Uniform. Not sure if it (battery) can be replaced or not? Backup is iPod...

    Moron Impeding Commerce....

My annual trip for some July 4th celebratory supplies (fireworks). As I approach a deserted stand (???), and begin to look around, he finally notices. I get the impression they're fixing to shut down (at 8:30p??), when his answer to my question if they're still open = "just cleaning up and...

Legalise To Leaving an Auto In A Will?

Deep in the process of revising my will. Not only is it time, but I've had several close calls in addition... To the lawyers on here, what's the best language to use to "bequeath" the sled to a family member? I have the title. It's certainly paid for. Vehicle description + VIN + registration...

    Calling Demarpaint...

I'm replacing a lower Masonite panel insert in a 33yr old wooden garage door. I was able to remove it this evening after a hour of slicing the wood stile & rail back. Fortunately, I have some 1/4" hard-on-both-sides brown panel I use for jig work. I'm surprised the manufacturer used Masonite...

    HVAC Coil Cleaning

My yearly ritual. Close neighbor's contractor generated lots of limestone dust & mortar mix that wafted over where the outside unit was located. Sprayed down outside coil with a whole can of TuffStuff. Next I sprayed the indoor A-frame coil, letting both soak while I went to purchase new 3M...

    Story on Fish-kill

While browsing the local on-line news, I came across this 'explanation' provided by a neighborhood spokesman to a homeowner, which was then turned over to a reporter. The HO believed a toxic algae-killer substance was the cause of a fish kill. I paste it here as I found it {all crammed...

    Solid Ice

Where I live, there are two seasons: SUMMER and February. As such, keeping a drink cold outdoors involves an insulated mug and ice. For the former, I prefer the large plastic double-walled versions made by Tervis. They don't heat up as much as the metal versions when in the Sun. With regards to...

    Website Loading Issue

Very odd problem recently occurred. The site in question is eevblog.com. It's an electronics forum. I was reading posts there and doing some searching w/o issue. Then a few days later I encounter this: https://screenshots.firefox.com/AniRnOoIvRbEyNZ6/www.eevblog.com DATABASE ERROR: IF YOU COME...

    LCD TV Reliability

Neighbor gave me a 2015 Samsung 48" LCD panel with LED backlights, that has seen little use. First time to investigate one. It's stuck in a repeated screen flash loop where the PS attempts to start, detects a fault, shuts down, tries again, detects the same fault, shuts down...ad infinitum. The...

    RUSH...The Movie

I really like this movie about friendship, competition, sport, technology, rivalry and racing. The interview with Lauda is also great. I think Ron Howard did a good job of telling the backstory, the main story, then a bit of what happened to them both afterwards. Hemsworth and Bruhl did a fine...
