I think on this occasion, VW know best, there must be a reason and it's probably engine protection.

40 weight oil for the workshop

The correct oil recommendation in the UK is 5w-30 504.00 on variable service regime and 5w-40 502.00 on fixed interval on most petrol engines. Most people who are on variable should be on fixed for best engine protection. 5w-30 ll3 is only recommended for light-duty long-distance driving as a...

40 weight oil for the workshop

30 years... They're not BITOGers though, I suspect people will just gravitate towards the most recognisable brands which will track the marketing their exposed to. I may have to swing towards the 5w-40 as this is usually the only viscosity recommended in the manual for fixed interval VAGs...

40 weight oil for the workshop

I used a liquimoly engine flush in a Pug diesel once and the engine started squeaking as if a bearing was running dry. Fine after the new oil was in and wasn't doing it before I put the flush in. It's anecdotal but I've not really trusted the brand since.

40 weight oil for the workshop

How do folks, Just trying to work out what's going to be best for our customer's engines here. VW 502.00 primarily but product rationalisation is a thing. I'm looking at M1 0w-40 or Mobil Super 3000 5w-40 (for the Mobil brand) BP Visco 5000 C 5w-40 has all the OEM specs I want but it's as...

    bonnet/hood latch lube

Yeah, the British Isles is a full spectrum climate area with high humidity in winter (it gets you cold down to your bones with only 5'c to 10'c temps). Most of our A and B roads don't have curbs so it's just a grass verge once you run out of tarmac so lorries pull mud onto the road when they...

    bonnet/hood latch lube

Does it smell of piss? It'll still get the grime stuck to it. For the sake of wear and optics, I'll go for the dry chain lube.

2012 Touareg TDI - Which oil would you use?

I'm not sure what the engine is "clearanced" for in terms of using the 5-40. I think you probably have to factor in the engine builders actually selecting an oil that is essentially too thin for the engine so that the engine consumes more of it, which then makes the owner top-up which refreshes...

    bonnet/hood latch lube

Yeah, lithium grease is the most common service grease here in England. I've settled on... Wurth - High Performance Dry Chain Lube It's specifically designed to give ep performance without attracting grime and grit. The lads can use it on their bikes too!

    bonnet/hood latch lube

This one hasn't been serviced in 3 years so hasn't had any lube, still working ok but this is typical, it's a 2010 car. Brake cleaner and the ilk don't make easy work of grease as a rule, they all need a fair amount of agitation to dislodge the grease/mud/grit mixture.

    bonnet/hood latch lube

yeah, we get them all flopping about or jammed up with mud and road grime but the problem is the grease collecting it all. I'm talking 10-20-year-old cars here. I'm looking at the WD40 specialist dry lube or similar products and the moment just so it doesn't collect as much ****e.

    bonnet/hood latch lube

How do lads. potentially the most boring topic of the day. I'm taking bonnet/hood latch lube. Whenever I see latches in our workshop they are just an accumulation of grit and grease which is only like grinding paste wearing the latches out. Tech love a good mound of lithium spray grease! I'm...

    New VW-VW507/509 oil

Fuel related I'm guessing... You boys are forced to use more cornolene than us over here. E10 is the max over here, and even that sucks the big one (lower MPG). Luckily there are some local stations that stock E0, when you fill up with it your eyes are shifting about to see if there's some...
