Toyota dealer uncertainty in the oil viscosity used

TGMO 0W-16 SPI SN has a pour point below -50C per the Japanese TDS.

TGMO VOA 0W16 API SP GF6

Does anyone have a PDS for TGMO 0W16 API SP? I found a Japanese language PDS for it and it shows -27C (-17F)... I can only assume it's a typo.

Toyota dealer uncertainty in the oil viscosity used

Interesting. Well, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. I have never even seen a 0W20 synthetic with a pour point that high. Hitting the 2 instead of the 5 on a keypad would be easy to do.

Toyota dealer uncertainty in the oil viscosity used

I can’t find an English language PDS for TGMO 0W-16 SP. I sent my dealer’s parts department a request for the PDS and SDS.

Toyota dealer uncertainty in the oil viscosity used

You don’t have to know Japanese to extract the pour point from the two TDS sheets. The SN is listed as -50C.

Toyota dealer uncertainty in the oil viscosity used

https://toyota.jp/pages/contents/after_service/car_care/yohin/sds/pdf/Gasoline_engine_oil/08880-131.pdf Did anyone else notice that the pour point for TGMO 0W-16 SP is only -27C (-17F)? The SN is around -50C. Why!? Where I live, it's not uncommon for temps to dip below -27C...

    From golden to dark immediately!?

I suppose the high TBN suggests the oil was changed. The silicon could be residual from factory sealants, since this was the first change. I've noticed that silicon can be well over 100ppm in first-fill UOAs. Aluminum and Iron are very low for a first-fill UOA, so, again, maybe residual. I just...

    From golden to dark immediately!?

Who knows. 10ppm copper in oil that was just changed sure doesn't strike me as a residual level.

    From golden to dark immediately!?

Maybe. Sure doesn't look like any oil I've seen immediately after a change - opaque black in the container.

The bottom two pics are brand new Toyota 0W16 oil for reference. The stuff in the first pics are oil that I extracted right after driving home from the dealer after having the oil changed (supposedly).

    From golden to dark immediately!?

I'll be sending the sample in for a UoA. I ran it for 16,000km (10,000 miles) before the first change per Toyota's recommendation. The engine didn't burn any oil at all. I can see how some residual oil in the engine might darken the oil, but not this much...

    From golden to dark immediately!?

Just had my 2019 Corolla Hatchback in for its first oil change. Upon receiving my keys back, I proceeded to open the hood and just do a quick once-over. I pulled the dipstick and immediately noticed something that seemed off. The colour on the stick was still a golden brown. When the oil was new...
