    UOA for used vehicle evaluation

Also, would you really know for sure what oil type and viscosity was in the engine ? Probably not, nor the miliage on the oil either. And as mechanicx said, most used car dealers change the oil before putting it on the lot anyhow. Good luck.

20,000 OCI on Toyota Tundra! ?

An oil analysis is used to determine engine wear and other factors. It is too bad that the suspect oil cannot be analysed as that will have told you what you are wanting to know. I would run the current oil for the manufacturers recommended period, according to your climate and driving...

Best advice for average drives = change 2x a year.

I asked an oil analysis lab technician, whether synthetic oils really have to be changed annually, regardless of miliage and this is what he replied; "Our data base has many different engines that have various oil change intervals. We do have a few where the owner has kept the oil in use for up...

I just got back a great UOA where the oil ran for 17 months and 14,626 miles and the TBN level was still 2.2 Might push the next OCI to 16,000 or 24 months, whichever comes first !!!

The funny thing is a neighbor that has a "hurt" Ford F150 with a rear oil seal leak wanted the old stuff to put in his truck !! I happily put the old stuff in the jug and gave to him.

    2001 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L M1 5W30 EP at 14,262 Mi.

I just got my first UOA back for my PreRunner two-wheel drive that has 102,023 miles on the odometer with no known problems of any kind. It was a very interesting exercise, since the M1 "Extended Performance 15,000" has been in the truck since August 11, 2008 (17 months) and has gone 14,262...

What are the Better UOA Test Labs ?

Oh, I forgot to mention the TBN test costs $10 more. The TBN measures the amount of active additive left in the oil sample, which is informative for those desiring to extend their OCI.

Great report Steve. I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma with an Inline Four 2.7L engine and 102,023 miles on the odometer and have pushed the OCI of the M1 5W30 EP to just over 14,000. Will post UOA as soon as I get it back from Blackstone. What is the total miliage on your Civic ?

Wow, some really good information and interesting comments, thanks fella's. I got my Blackstone kit in today's mail, so I will drop the oil tomorrow and get it sent to Fort Wayne, IN. on Monday. Can't wait for the results and will post them up on this board. Might as well put the link up here...
