    .38 Special Ammo

I'm not an expert, but have read that barrel length with the .38 may dictate which ammo you use. For 4+ inches, the FBI load (all lead semi-wadcutter hollowpoint) seems to be good, according to the experts. But, it may or may not expand out of the shorter barrels, not enough speed perhaps? For...

    Chlorinated CLP

So does this: http://www.uww.edu/adminaffairs/riskmana...ated_5.5.93.pdf .. imply there is a version of Breakfree that has chlorinated compounds (EP additives maybe0?

    Ballistol

I like it because the wife doesn't kick me out of the house for using it. I understand it does not contain fancy additives for lubrication, but seems to clean well metal parts well enough. And, it doesn't seem to eat my skin like some of the solvents. I don't seem to have rust in my bores...

Is this a new formulation of Rem Oil? http://www.remington.com/~/media/Files/MSDS/GunCare/remoil-moistguard.ashx Looks like they are trying to beef it up a bit.

    ... speaking of Breakfree, could someone decipher this for a non-chemist? From MSDS: Polyalphaolefin oil, 40-60% CAS# 68037-01-4 Synthetic rust inhibitors, esters & lubrication additives, 15-25% CAS# Proprietary 2 Ethylhexyl Acetate, 10-20% CAS# 103-09-3 Dibasic Ester #1, 3-8% CAS#...

I was taught that everything is toxic at a high enough dose. ...but yes, these guys (LCCP's) look relatively safe. Some animal data, human data generally lacking. Like I said, as long as you don't bathe in the stuff. :) Brad ps: I just looked at short chain chlorinated paraffins and agree...

what are you using for personal defense ammo?

Either Speer Gold Dot, Federal HST, Winchester Ranger or any of the all-copper loads (Corbon DPX, Black Hills Barnes-X load, etc.). Whichever one is on sale when I'm rotating stocks. Has this been posted yet? http://ammo.ar15.com/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm Pretty good summary of...

Yep, some carco risk, regular handlers of firearms would likely be exposed (dermal, inhalation). But, the dose makes the poison (toxicology motto) and I suspect exposure would be relatively low unless you snort, drink or bathe in the product. Guess I'd Grok around the risk to benefit question...

    Wolf ammo

I think the laquer melting myth has been busted: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/edu18.htm My AR seemed to do okay with Wolf at the last class. After 573 rounds, it was still running.. dirty as all heck, but still running. I did swap out the H2 buffer for a regular buffer, because the Wolf...

    Cocked and locked 1911 discussion

As long as the thumb safety is stout (doesn't disengage with the wind) and the grip safety functions as designed... all should be well. Just my .02 cents.

Guess my first post will be to bring an old thread back to life. Stumbled upon this website, super great information here, many, many thanks! I'm a toxicologist by trade, for a huuuuge pharmaceutical company. Likely that I can't contribute too much here, but I do have a large database of...
