Fighting fuel dilution: Honda 1.5L Turbo

Now that I’ve decided on and bought a 2017 Honda Civic Touring with the 1.5L turbo, what things can we do to fight the duel dilution issue with this motor?

    Top tier or ethanol free

I was always taught to use good gas. When I first got my MINI I learned about top tier cert and started using it. Around here Phillips 66 is the only top tier option and is close. My wife’s 14 Lincoln Navigator only needs regular. There is a locally owned station (with a very good rep) that...

    2017 Civic vs Corolla

Looking at choosing between a new 2017 Honda Civic touring (to get Honda Sensing) versus a 2018 Toyota Corolla XSE. I like the Honda car a little better but the Toyota dealer better - so it’s a pick-em. The Toyota also comes with a no cost lifetime power train warranty (some special agreement...

What would your choice of a daily driver be...

...if you were to buy one today? I might be in the market for a new daily driver for a suburban retiree situation. Budget aside (since I’m seeing what you would get for youself), there are lots of choices. What would you choose and why if you went car shopping this afternoon?

    2014 Taurus low coolant

No light on or anything but when I checked under the hood I noticed it was a smidge under the min line on the expansion tank. This was my Grandmother's car so it has only done short trips in the 3k miles in 3 years she owned it. Not sure of the maintenance history besides it haven been taken to...

Different requirements Taurus V6 and Navigator V8n

I now have 2 Ford products that both spec 5W20 - though they are quite different. I recently inherited a 2014 Ford Taurus SEL 3.5L V6 with 3,300 miles. My Grandmother only drove it about 7 miles to the grocery store and though I don't know exactly how often she had it serviced I suspect it was...

    2014 Lincoln Navigator oil recommendations

Wife's 2014 Lincoln Navigator with 5.4l V8. Suburban driving at ~8k a year with many trips under 5 miles but at least one longer trip a week. Texas South Plains. Warranty is up so I can move away from the Ford required 6 month OCI and on to yearly changes. Thinking Motorcraft filter? Oil?

    Good fridge brand

our expensive Maytag top of the range French door fridge is falling apart for the second time in two and a half years. If they don't take any better care for us this time we'll need to start looking for one to buy. Any brands better than any other others? -- or at least better than Whirlpool/Maytag.

    Today's legendary reliability vehicle is?

I remember as I really started to notice cars in the late '70's - early '80's that MB, Volvo, and Saab were cars famous for their reliability. By the end of the decade the Japanese had swooped in and Honda and Toyota seemed to hold that title for about twenty years. As I survey the new car...

    Wix for Ford 5.4l V8 in a 2014 Navigator

I've read in several places that the Motorcraft filter is the best filter for this engine. However, I got a Wix filter when I bought the oil for the next change. Is that a good choice or should I go ahead and get the Motorcraft.

Advise I read on spark plug changes doesn't sound

...right. On my 2008 MINI Cooper S convertible (R52 with supercharger), the book says change the plugs every 100k. I'm currently just shy of 70k but thought about changing since I have them. Went to a mini forum to check out opinions on the matter. Was surprised to find that many were suggesting...

2 year super low mile OCI

There was a change in the manual between my '05 and '08 MINI Cooper convertible as far as the OCI goes. It used to say one year if you didn't travel many miles, now it says 2 years between services if you go less than 6,000 miles. I fall into that as I don't go over 1,000 miles a year any more...

This mix of leftovers ok for '14 Navigator

It's time for an oil change in my wife's 2014 Lincoln Navigator. It has the 3 valve 5.4L V8 and it takes 7 quarts of 5w20. I have a bit of oil that I have around from previous changes: 5qt Redline 0w20 1 qt Sustina 0w20 1qt MINI 5w30 1 1/2 qt Mobil 1 15w40 1qt Castrol, Nextgen 5w30 I was...

    Feedback for 2014 Navigator

Wife just bought a new 2014 Lincoln Navigator. It's the last year for the 5,4L V8. Thoughts on OCI and oil. Also need to decide on continuing to maintain cars myself or letting the dealer do this one. Last question: this vehicle had sat on the lot since summer. Is there anything I should do...

2014 Navigator: to corn or not to corn

My wife just got a new 2014 Lincoln Navigator. It's the first car we've had that is a flex fuel. I've done a bit of reading on here on the subject but didn't see much about running E85 in flex fuel engines particularly. I know it gets less MPG but often sells for cheaper. If it's low enough to...

Measuring oil taken out with extractor

I'm hoping this is a simple question with a why didn't I think of that answer... I have a motive power extractor that I've used a few times to do oil changes in my vehicles. It seems to do a great job on the 3.7L V6 in our Acura MDX. I'm not sure, however, how much oil I'm leaving in my jag...
