School Closing Because of Predicted Weather?

One thing to consider is that weather prediction is a good bit more accurate today than it was when many of us were young. I know that everyone likes to think that the forecast is a crap shoot at best, but that isn't really the case these days. If severe storms with tornado development possible...

    LED lighting. Preferred color temp.

We personally like a warmer light color. There are LEDs biased to that end of the spectrum and we prefer them.

Really nice car! Especially with a stick.

2016 Volvo V60 - dealer put used oil back in the car

I agree since there is no way to keep the drained oil actually clean in the shop environment. The OP had an oil consumption test done due to a defect inflicted by the manufacturer and they then denied warranty on that defect. Dumping the drain oil back in is adding insult to injury.

Consumer Reports Ranking on 10 year maintenance costs...

Unless one has access to a fleet database or manufacture's data on repairs I don't see any better data out there than what CR offers. Nobody with that sort of information seems to post here, although they probably lurk. Real people using real cars bought with their own money may be the best we...

Tesla AutoPilot runs over and kills motorcycle rider

Tesla does tell buyers that they must keep their eyes on the road, their hands upon the wheel, to use a lyric, at all times. OTOH, Tesla uses terms like Autopilot and FSD to promote their wares and charged a pretty premium to have these features enabled, so which is it? There are no true FSD...

    3,000 Mile Oil Change

Another thread in which posters ignore well validated IOLMs as well as conservative specified oil change intervals and go their own way instead. This is the if oil changes are good then more must be better school of thought as though manufacturers couldn't figure obvious things like fuel...

Post your Gas Mileage : Calculated

HAH, 601 miles on 10.6 gallons, so 56.7 mpg. E15 was about 7% less per gallon than E10. I figured that fuel economy loss should be less than 2%, so this seemed like a deal and I filled the car with 10.6 gallons of the E15. We'll see.

Is It A Buyers Or Sellers Market Where You Live ?

Between the lack of new home construction on spec and having seen bloodsucking private equity investors buy up a large proportion of the available modestly priced existing single family stock, it remains very much a seller's market. There is hope in the widespread redevelopment of inner ring...

    Happy Birthday AutoMechanic!!

You know, I've often reflected upon that. Too bad it takes years of living to learn the game of life. Anyway, happy birthday to you young man and may you enjoy many more.

Is the recommended 0-20 bad for engine life?

Engines do wear without regard to the grade of oil used. Thing is the entire car wears and in much of the country is also subject to rust. There is really no point in using a thicker grade of oil in an effort to extend engine life even farther beyond the life of the vehicle than it would be...

U.S. Diesel & Gasoline Weekly Fuel Cost Update 04-22-2024

So I guess what I can buy fuel around here for is actually a very fair deal. Thanks for the update.

What Factors Are Swaying EV Adoption in the U.S.?

I've come to think this. The HAH is a nice overall combination of operating economy along with needing no real planning for trips, except maybe using an app to find the cheapest gas en route.

    The Extended Protection (Performance) Revolution

Well, there is this place called "Europe" where 20K drains are more the expectation than the exception. In this place they also have standards that are rather more demanding than API. Do these US market oils really hold up to extended drain intervals? In the absence of some objective testing...

Anyone like anchovies and kipper snacks?

Grilled kippers and onions were a typical cruise ship breakfast offering pre-covid. Used to get them a few times each week of a trip. Along with grilled tomatoes and scrambled eggs this made for a hearty and filling breakfast to ready one for a couple of hours in the water snorkeling.

    Daughter's trip to JiffyLube

Agree with Zee, she should have called the dealer. Probably cheaper and they would have at least had the oil filter on hand. Pablo also has a good point in that SIL could have done the job for a fraction of the cost.

VW workers in Tennessee vote to join UAW in historic win for Detroit union

Like every organization or institution conceived by man unions have aspects of both good and bad. In the absence of organized labor employers enjoy market power and can set wages and working conditions without any worker input. Unions empower workers to collectively have input into wages, labor...

    1972 Honda Civic

Yep, that's a 600. We had a '76 Civic 1500 and found it to be really fun to drive, reliable and durable. It was pretty prone to rust, though. I'd not mind a nice old Civic as a good weather fun car although even a Mirage would annihilate one in a collision.
