    2014 Mazda 3 unveiled...

I've a 2001SE Miata and 2002 Protege5 (manual). I have had an excellent ownership experience. I see them as a poor man's BMW with the provisio that a Mazda is great for long term ownership. I have zero regrets about the P5 in comparison to the same model year Civic. Will be looking at the new...

    Selling the Harley Today.

Stay off the highway. Tiny back roads. Honda CBR250R and Honda Helix. Helix for shopping and pure relaxation and the CBR for a little excitement.

Another 5-20 in place of 5-30 Question

The best way to increase mpg is to replace the driver. My ex would always drive the pi$$ out of her car from stone cold dead in the morning throughout.

So What's A Bargain Car Now?

I bought a '89 Accord LXi from a guy in the next door office 5 years ago. It had 160k at purchase and now has 215k. Routine maintenance except new main relay at purchase and got a timing belt, water pump and new half shafts/cv joints at around 200k. Just did a tune-up, filter, plugs, distributor...

Finally Did It - Waited 1 Year For Oil Change

Like the title says. Went one year on my '97 Maxima SE 5-speed. Just around 10k miles. Oil was M1 5W-30 EP, total miles 151k. OEM filter. Went 10 months (8k miles) on my '89 Accord Lxi (total miles 210k) and 10 months (9k miles) on my '98 Frontier 4 cylinder 5-speed (total miles 139k). Had...

55 and Looking For A New Vehicle

I have a '97 Maximum 5-speed and I doubt it will ever die. But, my wife got rid of the '05 Odyssey (kids all drive and 20 years of mini-vans had given her a mini-van O.D.) and bought a new Civic with manual tranny. Now, I've got new car jealosy. Problem is, I'm all over the place on what to...

Why the need for an engine overhaul . . . ?

Well, my '97 Maxima SE 5-speed at 150k miles just got new KYB shocks/struts all way around along with new brake pads (rears went 150k miles and still had some life) and front rotors by yours truly. Next is a new exhaust from headers back, that is, leaving the headers on but new y-pipe, cat, s...

Manual tranny - cruise to a stop or downshift?

Slow down with car in whatever gear it was in when you determined the need to stop, use brakes if needed and when tach shows 900 rpm put in neutral and complete stops with the brakes. If you're driving a sportscar on a back country road, you do a lot of downshifting. Doesn't hurt a thing, like...

    Automatic VS. Standard Transmission?

A well built manual tranny with a skilled driver is tops. It's downhill from there.

    Hard to start when hot

Sounds like it needs an Italian tune-up. Is it a city car, does it ever get out and breath fresh air? I've a '97 Maxima SE 5-speed. That manual tranny is good for regular Italian tune-ups.

2004 Mercedes M-Class; Why synthetic oil?

Does the Mercedes have an engine management system similar to late model BMW's where the operating temperature is allowed to rise at steady highway speed so as to increase fuel efficiency? If so, that might be a reason to stick with an approved oil.

    Have Hyundai's reliability really improved???

I thought most newer Japanese cars had bucket and shim for lifters which do not require normal adjustment. Isn't that what Hyundai has and if so why do their's need 90k adjustment?

How reliable is manual transmission? (acura tsx)

LOL, your angsting. Just drive your TSX like you stole it that morning and are going to strip it for parts that night. Do not baby it, wind it up to redline and wham-bam into the next gear. Downshift and listen to the tires chirp and the engine howl. That's exactly how the Honda engineers...
