Low/mid SAPS in GDI Turbo engine

Quote: All oils have anti-wear additives. The most important thing to remember when speaking about low-SAPS oils is that they have less ash-producing and/or phosphorus/sulphur-based additives (i.e. the ones that contribute to a higher SAPS value in the first place). The most common end result is...

Low/mid SAPS in GDI Turbo engine

Interesting. So, to summarize the article, the two key concerns for TGDI's are oxidation and volatility, the former being handled by antioxidants and detergents. The effects of fuel dilution are mitigated by anti-wear additives. Their prescription for TGDI's are robust additive pack +...

Thanks for the reply, il signore. Yes, i saw the Lubrizol report. I think I'll give it a go and just make sure to do a uoa at 3000 mi with both tbn and tan.

Low/mid SAPS in GDI Turbo engine

Hello, I'm weighing the pros and cons of running Redline's lower SAPS Euro 5w30 in my '08 VW GTI(FSI engine), motivated by reports that SAPS are a major contributor to carbon deposits in GDI turbo engines. My concern in using a lower SAPS oil is in it's reduced additive pack and it's interaction...

    RL 10w-40 for FSI GTI

Thanks Saaber, That's very interesting food for thought. I'm curious, when you say "cold temps", what exactly do you mean? Btw thanks for that link...

    RL 10w-40 for FSI GTI

Yes, I suppose the 0w-40 is an option. I guess I overlooked it because I live in a warm climate (L.A.) where the 0w is unnecessary. I think the best thing is to give RL another call. Thanks Robert,

    RL 10w-40 for FSI GTI

Hey, Junkie I remember reading a thread a while ago on bitog that discussed RL and moly. Apparently, the 5w-40 used to have moly too until RL decided to make it and the 5w-30 acceptable for a certain application( diesel ?) for which moly isn't/wasn't allowed. I believe those 2 are the only RL...

    RL 10w-40 for FSI GTI

Hello, I'm interested in using the Red Line 10w-40 for my 08 FSI GTI, specifically for the Moly it contains (the 5w-40 does not). I know that the 5w-40 is the usually rec. weight for my engine but am wondering if it's acceptable, in So California, to run the 10w-40? Thanks for the help, Alex
