    Down the toilet

Don't know if your kidding or not, but the Cuban cigars will be confiscated at best. I really wouldn't want to try to bring those in. I wouldn't see any problems with plumbing or electrical supplies.

Left-over oil mixed brew: a problem?

When you mix different oils, cold crank properties can be one of the more unpredictable factors.

    Recession from Katrina?

Anyone think a major economic recession may result from the fallout from Katrina? It will take some time to get refining back at full capacity and Winter is not far away. Soaring energy prices especially for home heating will take such a bite out of our wallets that consumer spending will take a...

    Super-charged GM 3800

Just saw that you have a lot of GC on hand. Why not try it again in the new one and see if you get the same results? It will give excellent wear protection. Hard to believe a dramatic mpg drop. , especially if you have to take a loss on selling the GC.

why has mobil 1 increased in price so much?

Did you perhaps buy the Mobil 1 Extended Protection (EP)?? It wasn't available last year and does cost somewhat more.

    Generic Drugs

Our state just passed a law that all prescriptions must be filled with generics unless the doctor specifically writes "dispense as written", medically necessary. I don't like that. Whether drugs or oil, I should be able to buy whatever brand I want as long as I'm paying my money. Of course, the...

    M1 5W-30 or 5W-40 for Jeep 4.0L

With these conditions, I might just consider dino and frequent changes. The oil is probably going to get a lot of fuel loading.

    Relevance of TBN

Since this is the gasser forum, I'm wondering if we don't make too much of TBN? If an oil is formulated to resist oxidation and shows a lower TBN than an oil that will oxidize more rapidly but has a high TBN, is that not better?? TBN is obviously important with diesels, but I wonder if we don't...

    Chinese $$$

Just read where China will no longer link the yuan to the US dollar. Malaysia the same I believe. Is this progress in free trade?? If they don't peg it to the US dollar and keep it artificially low, then maybe that is some progress.

    General Q about investing/returns etc...

I won't have anything to do with residential rental property around here. Never did, but with all the meth labs going, definitely too risky now. If a renter has a meth lab discovered, environmental regulations virtually require your house be destroyed. People doing this have been teachers...

Bummed about the China thread closure.

Yep, I'd like to see civil discussion continue. I was in Taiwan for a year and a half, so I have a great respect for Chinese culture and the people. Pablo, maybe "we" need a trade policy??

Oil change recommendation for 3.3L GM engine

I had an 89 Buick Century with this engine. I traded at around 175K miles because of a great deal. I still see this car as a commuter frequently. Not smooth, but a great engine. I kept the car for 12 yrs. At 85K your just getting it broken in. That was before Bitog, so I used Castrol 5W-30 GTX...

    Horse Feed

I'm trying to take care of my son's horse to a degree. Someone else puts out hay and gives sweet feed and water. I heard apples are not good, so I have given him some carrots for treats and that seems to work. Any other tips for treats that are healthy?? I heard apples will give them the...

1000 miles on Pennzoil Platinum and pressure is down.

Your Platinum is 10.4 cst. @ 100°C, so depending on which grade of M1 you were using, the Pennzoil might actually be thinner. Actually across a normal ambient M1 0W-30 may be thicker than M1 10W-30 e.g. Platinum is also a thin 30wt.

No start after adding Seafoam - got some q's

Any problems are not relevant to the work you did or the Seafoam, unless you knocked something else loose in the process. Oil change won't help. Sorry, but it looks like the computer may have gone South. You'll need a pro with the scan tool to determine. Since you decided to use Seafoam and...

    Filter Efficiency

I'm not trying to open a can of worms, but am truly interested. Everything I have read outside of bitog points to the fact that you want the best filtration possible as well as the best dirt holding capacity. I don't see flow being a problem for me since I don't race or do WOT runs. Of course...

    Vampire pump problem for uoa

I got a Blackstone pump with the 1/4" tubing and found it will not go into the oil pan far enough to draw a sample. GM 3800 Series II V-6. All I can guess is the bottom of the passage narrows significantly. It only goes in about 3/4 of the dipstick length and then no go. Anyone know why for sure??

Makes more sense to formulate on the "Thin Side"

Buster, Mobil 1 has the ESP available in Europe, no? I think the USA formulation are all to get the API Starburst. GC is unique, but Castrol does the same thing with their mainstream Syntec 30 wt.s I think it's Starburst API certification that drive it. If you want the prestige of being...
