Fuel Injectors - why they fail

Only injector problem I ever had was with 88 Cavalier 2.8 beginning about 150k miles. Injector resistance would drop when they got real hot (heat soak when stopped) and ECM would shut down injector circuit due to high current draw resulting in a no start. As the injectors cooled down, resistance...

Sparkling clean under oil cap--what does it mean?

Try doubling your OCI and see what happens. If things get black and sludgy then you can get more discussions on doing an engine flush

    Transmission cooler lines - 4t45e

Easiest way to tell flow direction is to remove one line and start the engine, see which way the ATF spurts out.

    Maxlife ATF Honda Users

I ran Maxlife ATF in my 2000 Accord (4 spd auto) starting at 100k miles. It was still shifting fine 5 years later at 175k when I sold it. It got regular ATF changes at 30k intervals and a Magnefine ATF inline filter in the cooling line since that model had no factory filter.

    Cooling your engine after driving?

Why bother with propping the hood open, just remove the hood and it will cool faster at home or in traffic, also saves wear on the latch and hinges. Keeps the hood looking like new when you go to sell it. Probably more advantages I havent thought of, may do mine tomorrow.

Frustrating drive train noise - 2001 Accord 4 cyl

Just to add to this discussion, tires can also create bearing type noises. My 2000 Accord had me convinced it had a bad wheel bearing, but it turned out to be a feathered tire tread. In this case the OP has eliminated the tire noise possibility by spinning the wheels off the ground and the...

When to replace OE spark plugs?

Wait to 100k then pull one of the easy front plugs for inspection. If it looks good and the gap is within spec put it back and run it to 125k? then pull a different front plug for another inspection. I ran my old 2000 Accord platinum plugs to 140k before changing them. I should have left them...

    People and the donut spare.

Not only do they ignore the tire speed rating, they dont have a clue on how much air pressure is in the donut spare. Most likely its way less than the 50-60 psi required due to normal leakage. Just gotta get there fast regardless of how many lives they put in danger.

2.8L GM V6 loose flaky sludge

Had an 88 Z24 Cavalier with the same engine. It had 206k miles when I sold it and looked the same under the valve covers. It was running fine, never any engine problems but the body was falling apart. Valvoline 5W-30, Purolator filters and 3k OCI in those days.

    Suburban 454 Issues

I think your problem is the Bosch O2 sensors. Had a similar stumble problem on my Jeep GC and swapping the new Bosch O2 sensors for OEM sensors fixed it. Bosch sensors seem to work good for EU vehicles but not so well in others.

How many sockets would you need....

I carry a 3/4" pipe about 2 foot long to slip over those short factory lug wrenches that come with the cars. A cheater works wonders to break loose the rusty/overtightened nuts

    Ghost Rider Rides Again

I was at Pima / DM in January and didnt see any B52s on the public bus tour. Not to say there were none there, but none I saw. On a previous visit in 2006 I recall seeing several with their wings chopped off. All the F16s lined up for drone target duty was rather sad. Guess they are running out...

39F degrees on Saturday...who's changing oil?

Got cabin fever last month and made a 2 week trip to Phoenix. Car got washed twice during that time, before that it was last October when temp was warm enough to wash at home.

Kit -vs- DIY headlight wiring harness upgrade?

I'm not familiar with sources for aftermarket harness kits, so I made my own headlight relay harness for one of my classic cars (71 240Z). I picked up two heavy duty Hella relays off a junk yard Buick (1990s?) and separate fuse holders for high and low beams. The wire and connectors were on...

    Don't touch your PetCock?

Radiators with any age on them will have scale sitting in the bottom near the petcock. When you drain em the scale cant get thru the small valve opening and they leak afterward. Unscrew and remove the petcock from the radiator provides a larger opening. Pulling the hose is best.

    Parking brake shoes

Jeep parking brake shoes tend to have the lining come loose and bind up inside the "hat". That can cause strange vibrations and ABS behavior. Owners swear they never drove with the parking brake on so the adhesive must be failing, possibly due to moisture or corrosion.
