DO YOU TRUST WHAT YOUR DEALER TELLS YOU

I never trust dealer service departments. They are in business to make money and the more service they sell you, the more they make. I go by the owner's manual.

Comments on Kia Spectra5 sport wagon?

Seotaji, I don't mean to be argumentative, but of the mods you listed, the only one that should add any weight would be the s/c - cams should break even, and tubular headers/aftermarket exhaust should save several pounds. As I said, I don't know anything about this engine, but the output just...

Comments on Kia Spectra5 sport wagon?

Korean_Redneck, I've heard the 3.5L V6 in the Sorrento falls on it's face at higher revs (evidenced by the relatively low output for its large size) - to your knowledge does anyone make a set of headers/hi-flo cats/exhaust that would help this engine out any, either here or in the KDM?

    Worst Tires Ever?

I'll chime in here and say that the OEM tires on my 02 Mazda Protege ES were AWESOME! This car rolled out w/ 195/50/16 Dunlop SP5000s and these tires were teh r0X0r!

Havoline synthetic compared to other synthetics

I've posted a couple of UOA's of Havoline full-syn 5W30 - one in an 01 Mitsu Eclipse and another in an 02 Mazda Protege ES - the oil did exceptionally well in both engines and Blackstone seemed to think it fine for at least 6K mile intervals in my applications.

    MITSUBISHI EVOLUTION OIL QUESTION?

Here's a crazy thought: Take a sample of your oil and send it to Blackstone and have a UOA performed on it...

    toyota 1.8L durability concerns

My suspicion is that they are seeing high temps because they have stuck the engine in a middie configuration that does not provide the same level of cooling as the MR2. I couldn't see any problem w/ this engine in the Matrix, synthetic oil or no.

    2004 Acura TSX 2.4L I-VTEC 4400 Miles 5w30 Mobil 1

I think it's the same engine, but in the TSX it's tuned to crank out 200 hp which I believe is about a 40 hp bump over the Accord.

    bias against American cars

Did this, per chance, coincide w/ Ford aquiring the automotive division? Actually that may be a little unfair; I've heard that since the 70's there are three truths that Volvo owners hold dear: 1) Volvos are very reliable cars 2) Volvos are very economical cars 3) Truths 1 & 2 apply to all...

    New Goodyear tires

My 01 Jetta came w/ Goodyear RS-As. They were OK, not the greatest tire I've ever been on and not the worst, but in VW circles, they were nicknamed Screamin' Eagles! That said, my 02 Protege came w/ Dunlop SP5000s and those were incredible OEM tires, esp on that car. I got an irrepairable...

    Hatred for Bush?

Panther. The Tiger (at least the Tiger I) just had a really big gun and really thick armor - there was nothing particularly innovative about it. The Panther on the other hand, was a magnificant machine - Heavy armor w/ a good slope on all sides, a small, heavy sloped turret, and a gun that...

Wheel hop with a front wheel drive car on wet pavement

As stated earlier, urethane motor mounts will eliminate most if not all of your wheel-hop issue (then you'll be saying D4MN! Now I've got to get a limited slip diff for this thing )...

Viet Nam Special Forces Vet hammers Kerry

This is truly pathetic. National Guard service then and National Guard service now are two completely different animals. Anyone who says otherwise is, quite frankly, a sorry liar.

    Pontiac GTO

That's true, but it hasn't been a distraction, its been a response to the marketplace. Over the last ten years, ultra-fuel efficient, plain-jane cars haven't sold as well as reasonably fuel effecient cars w/ decent ammenities. About the mileage, I totally agree, but compare for example a 1988...

    AWB harming U.S. Troops

Bingo - everything that our military uses is the result of a low bidder on a government contract - it stands to reason that NOTHING they use will be as good as it could be. That said, if the military says they need high-cap magazines, then I'm sure someone will build them for the right price -...
