    Thicker oil for high-mileage engine

I am looking for an oil to run in my '03 silverado 5.3L with 230,000 miles. Engine runs great, no leaks, and does not burn any oil whatsoever. I have always been a big fan of M1 oils, but recently have been running Valvoline Max-life 5w-30 synthetic blend. It is a good oil, and I have good oil...

polishing diamond plate back to a shine

Ok thanks for the advise guys. I don't live too close to any truck stops, but I do have a buddy who drives truck so he may know somebody local or he may even be able to help me shine it up.

polishing diamond plate back to a shine

I have a diamond plate toolbox behind the cab in my pickup. I am not sure if it is aluminum or stainless steel, as it is very light for its size. Anyway, when I first bought it and installed it, it had a very shiny chrome-like finish. It was basically like a mirror. Now after a year, it is a...

    fine scratches after buffing?

Thanks for the replies guys. I applied it with that applicator, and I wiped it off with microfiber towels. I actually have a bottle of Meguiar's Swirl X right now. Should I hit the truck with that? Also, I have acquired an air powered DA and I plan to use some type of bonnet applicator pad on...

    fine scratches after buffing?

I recently buffed my truck using Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. The applicator I used was a 3M buffing pad that I attached to a drill and used on low-medium speed. Here is a link to the applicator I used: http://www.autobarn.net/3m-superbuff-polishing-pad.html I made sure the truck was...

    engine oil stop-leak additives

I may actually try the Mobil 1 HM, just because I have been using M1 with no problems besides the small leak. In your guys' opinions, in my situation, is it better for me to run a high-mileage oil with seal conditioners, or to use a seal conditioner additive? For the most part, I am against...

    engine oil stop-leak additives

How many miles would I be safe to run this oil before an oil change? I currently do about 8K with Mobil 1 5w-30.

    engine oil stop-leak additives

Maxlife is a Valvoline product right? Is it a synthetic oil or not?

    engine oil stop-leak additives

2003 silverado halfton 5.3L engine, 200K miles. I have been keeping a close watch on a leak towards the rear of the engine. It seems to be the rear main seal, but it isn't leaking enough where it is leaving spots on the ground, nor do I ever have to add oil between oil changes. It is leaking...

    Power steering fluid

Good point bigmike. I just plan to do the turkey baster method and get what I can of the old out then refill and drive it a bit then do that a few more times. Any idea what the OEM fluid costs per quart? I'm assuming its more expensive than most other options, but like you said, it got me this...

    Power steering fluid

Getting ready to change the power steering fluid for the first time in my Silverado pickup. Truck has 200,000 miles on it and the fluid has never been changed. No leaks or anything. What brand should I go with? Is the Prestone brand found at wal-mart worth a darn? Also, anyone have any idea how...

    9005 headlight bulb mod

I am wanting to trim the tabs on a 9005 bulb and use it in place of my 9006 low beam bulbs. I drive an '03 silverado halfton. Will the increase in wattage between the two bulbs cause anything to melt or blow a fuse/relay? Just wanted to make sure before I mess somethin up on my truck. Anyone...

    tire pressures

The tires on the truck now are the stock tire size, they are LT265/75R16. That is the same size tire that came on the truck from the factory. The inside of my door just states that the tire size from the factory is 265/75R16 but I know that the factory tires were not Load Range E, which is what...

    tire pressures

The side of the drivers door says to run them at 35psi all around..I wasn't sure if this was true for higher load rating tires though, The tires that came on the truck from the factory were load range C, 6 ply. I just wasn't sure if you are still supposed to run 35psi, even with a heavier-duty...

    tire pressures

2003 halfton silverado Z71- I have Load range E tires on it, so they are 10 ply. The sidewall calls for no more than 80 psi cold, but of course we all know not to run tires at the rated pressure as that is wayyyyy too much. I have them at 45 psi cold, and the centers seem to be wearing out...

Mobil TDT 5w-40 and Shell Rotella 5w-40

So basically what you guys are getting at, is that RTS is a grp III synthetic where the M1 TDT is a grp VI but the quality of the RTS is so good that the difference in the two is like splitting hairs? I don't understand completely the whole group III and VI thing, but it seems to me that they...

Mobil TDT 5w-40 and Shell Rotella 5w-40

I will just be running the oil in my stock, daily driver so I am leaning more on the side of RTS because of price since they are both so close to equal. What benifits does a better add pack have? That is additives as far as like cleaning agents and anti-wear correct? Thanks for your comments

Mobil TDT 5w-40 and Shell Rotella 5w-40

In your opinion, which one is a better oil? Or are they equal under everyday normal use? In my area, both oils are a bit on the pricey side so it comes down to which is a better performer, has better additives and base stocks. Thanks for the help!
