    Okay I didn't think of that. I did pack clean rags in the valve cavity before sanding then swabed with paint thinner then dried the whole thing. But I will change the oil before I use it again. Good advice.

    Near philadelphia pa. 2.47 for regular. I'm waiting for my Pa natural gas to be widely available for cars. Supposed to be 1/3 the cost per energy unit than gasoline. I dunno much.

    Okay so 8 weeks ago I change the oil with 5w 30 dino. I also installed a new carb because it was surging up and down (it solved that problem). At the time I noticed the valve cover was leaking and had my engine caked with oil and mud. Which leads me to believe that it was leaking for years...

    Kohler 17 hp in kubota lawn tractor. Gas smell in oil. Bluish smoke, backfire on start. Engine maintained yearly oil filter etc this is a 2003 engine. Is this a carburetor problem is it may be like a broken diaphragm or dirt on the needle?

    Coldest temps here are 5 to 30 probably most of the worst is around 15. It is electric start. Btw I have never used the pull cord to start. Maybe I'll leave it in there then on a cold day when it's not a power outage I'll start it. If it's a problem I'll switch to a lighter grade. Thanks y all.

    Sometimes inquiring minds have to know! How about a brake job for say $200 per axle. And in 20000 miles how many time do those things safely stop 3 to 4 thousand lbs. For fractions of pennies per stop. My head is starting to hurt.

    Since moving to a warmer climate is not practical. Spend the extra 4 or 5 Canadian Dollars for 0 30 synthetic. Drive an extra 9000 US miles; you'll be ahead on your purchase and will be able to sleep better. -20 is dang cold for regular starts.

    I changed the oil in the 16 hp engine today. The manual calls for 10 - 30. I had a a brain snap and grabbed a bottle of 10 - 40 Castrol conventional. Poured it in when I'm cleaning up I look at the label and realize it was wrong. Does it matter? Will it be hard starting in the cold temperatures...
