    Rebadged Mobil HDEO

I got a bottle of store branded HDEO from Repco(a local parts shop in Australia). The label on it says "Manufactured for Repco Limited by Mobil Oil Australia Pty Ltd.", and it is rated API CI-4 and SL. However, it only mentions ACEA A2/B2, without other ACEA ratings. I thought passing CI-4 would...

    New- Castrol GTX Start Up

No matter how the performance of it is, it's a rip off for $2.87 per quart.

    ATF ok in gas?

Use TCW-3 2-stroke oil, at least they are ashless when burnt. Or you may wanna use some proper OCL.

    Synthtic cleaning properties

I'm only a rookie, but in my opinion: sludge build up in one oci = amount of oil broken down - amount of sludge particles dispersant and cleansing agent handled. So base on the equation, a syn. oil will absolutely reduce the amount of oil breakdown, thus the dispersant/cleaners may be able to...

What's the point of Pennzoil SUV oil?

In Oz here, the Pennzoil 4WD dino is a SJ(SL?)/CH-4 rated oil, so probably Pennzoil is doing the same thing like mobil with their Delac-1 and M1 SUV. Not sure if that's the same thing as its counterparts in the US.

Delo 15W40 Mix with Havoline 5W40

Got 2 quart of Delo 400 15W40 left after last oil change, since we're approaching winter down under, I'm thinking of adding another 2 liter of Havoline 5W40 syn. (probably group 3) to mix with the delo, do u guys have any comments on this mix?

Delvac MX or Delvac 1300 15W40

The oil will be used in a GM 3800 series 1 V6, which oil is a better choice? Delvac MX or Delvac 1300? Both of them are API SL/CI-4, however, MX has a lower TBN while 1300 has a higher viscosity in cold and hot. What exactly are the differences between these 2 oil? They seem to be at a simular...

Shelll Base oil - quality question

I reckon the Helix dino is not really that bad despite of the price. At least it have got a TBN of 8 instead of the 6.3 in Castrol GTX2 and 5 in BP Visco 2000.

    Australian GTX 2

That is just a ordinary low-end to mid-range sorta dino oil, nothing more, nothing less. It won't blow up ur engine but it's not superior than others in the same price level either. I reckon Shell Helix Super (yellow bottle) is a better buy, at least they met the ACEA A2/B2.

    Shelf life of oil ?

I reckon some of those volatile components might get evaporated at room temperature for prolonged period of time, may be that would cause a drop in amount of VI in dino oil. Maybe this will make the the oil a bit thicker and less cold flow ability. With less VI / more stable VI in synthetic's...

BP Visco 3000 - Australian one

I used the BP3000 in my previous car prior selling it, seems to be good stuff, engine felt smoother and quieter compared to Castrol GTX. Also, besides the gasket leak, not much oil was lost during the service, should be pretty good. I now run Shell Helix City + Shell Helix Ultra (in 4:1 ratio)...

    Smartblend ATF Protectant

It was recommended by my transmission specialist when I got my auto transmission serviced there, any idea on whether it's good or not? Seems like he rate this at the same level of Lubegard. That additive is made by Life Automotive. http://www.lifeautomotive.com/Products/ATFP4001.asp

    Nulon Lifter-Free and Tune-Up

I recently found this product in a nearby autoparts shop, and I've got a bit lifter noise in my car. I wasn't able to find AutoRX in my place, so what do u guys think about this stuff by its formulation? How is it compared to ARX and how long should I let it stay in the motor? INGREDIENTS...

    Brake Fluid Moisture Absorption Rates

I guess we should have some sort of graph show relationship of temperature and amount of break fluid vapourized at that temperature. Liquid will vapourize even the temp. is much lower than its boiling point, but just the rate of vaporization is different. A curve / graph showing temp. vs...

Oil for 3 Months Drain Interval

Nah, I usally get the oil changed approx 7500km - 10000km. But the stupid extend warranty stuff on my new 2nd hand car requires me to get the car serviced every 3 months. Sounds like I should stay with the dino oil with this application, the engine is now only 70000km after rebuild, so just want...

Oil for 3 Months Drain Interval

I'll need to keep changing oil in my car every 3 months, just wanna know what will be the best option for me. I'm thinking of getting some good syn. / blend in the beginning of every year while using some cheapo dino oil in the other times. Is it a good idea or I should just feed the engine on...

    Borg Warner M51

ya, it's an old fashioned 3 speed auto box and I've already got a tranny cooler (not a big one. but should be enough according to Ford) that came with the heavy duty tow pack. However, I still got pretty bad, burnt ATF out around every 5000-10000km, just doesn't seem right to me. I guess it's...

    Brake Fluid Moisture Absorption Rates

Even though boiling point indicates some of the properties of the fluid. I reckon that it's a better idea to get a vaporization vs temp. curve for all brake fluid. It's no good to have a sharp cut out as well as having something like 60% of the fluid got vapourize at a v. low temp.
