    2008 Silverado 5.3 - switching to 10W-30 ok?

I have a 2008 Silverado 5.3 with 163,000 miles that is using some oil. I have had AFM turned off with my tune since at least 70,000 miles but still using some oil. Is there an issue with moving up to a 10W-30 since my truck technically calls for a 5W-30? Since I live in middle TN, it gets...

    1965 Mustang 289 - Recommended oils

We just got a 1965 Mustang 289 from my fiance's uncle and it's time for some maintenance to be done. It's been in the family it's whole life too. It's completely original/stock with the stock 289 that has never been rebuilt. Her family thinks that the OD has rolled over so no idea how many...

    Sight seepage from drain plug

I have a 2008 Silverado w/ 5.3. Using Fram Ultra and M1 5W-30. I have some slight seepage from my drain plug. I've torqued it to spec and even replaced the entire plug and rubber o-ring but it's still leaking. Maybe 1 or two drops of oil in the garage a night. I was thinking about replacing...

Help with GM/AC Delco Power Steering fluid

I need to get some power steering fluid for my '08 Silverado and these part numbers are driving me crazy. Here is what I've found and I'm hoping somebody can confirm the most up-to-date part number I need. 89021185 -> New # is 19329450 (16 oz) 12345867 -> new # is 19329448 (1 qt) There is...

AC Delco Filters - Silicon or Nitrile ADBV?

Does AC Delco use silicon or nitrile ADBV's? I tried looking online but could not find anything and calling their Tech Line was pointless. I have a few PF48's (non Ecore) and some UPF48's left over that I can use. If not I'll go with a filter that has a silicon ADBV (Fram Ultra or Wix).

PF63 vs PF48 - How much more capacity?

I am entertaining the idea of putting the PF63 (or it's equivalent) on my 2008 Silverado. From what I've gathered they are pretty much identical with a minor difference in the bypass pressure. According to WIX the 57060 is 12 psi and the 57045 is 12-15. Both have a silicone ADBV. Fram Ultra...

Fuel System treatment - Best option for long trip

Looking to run some fuel system cleaner through the truck this weekend since I’ll be making a 150 mile interstate run so I figured now would be a good time to run some cleaner. What is the best cleaner when comparing these? Berryman B12 Techron Concentrate Regane BG44K Lucas STP What is the...

Silverado 5.3 - Cold lifter tick - Filter related?

I posted a question a few weeks ago about getting an occasional cold lifter tick on my 2008 Silverado. It only does it when it's really cold and been sitting outside for an extended period of time (truck is garage kept). It is an '08 so it is part of the notorious early AFM issue but I have AFM...

    Silverado cold start lifter tick

What could causes be for a cold start lifter tick? This is a 2008 Silverado with 5.3? Could it be the oil? Something with better cold pumping properties? I'm currently running PP 5W-30. What about adding seafoam or something to the oil? Is that advised? I noticed that PP HM has better MRV...

Grease for CV to hub splines

I need to replace my CV axles on my 2008 Silverado 4wd. What is a good grease to use for the splines that go into the hub? I have a can of the old GM grease (part # 12345718). Would that work or should I use something like a marine grease? I want use something that I can get at the local parts...

    Synthetic Blend help with consumption?

I have a 2008 Silverado w/ 5.3 and slight oil consumption issues (like most of them). Would running Pennzoil 5w-30 Syn Blend help with consumption at all? If I ready the PDS right it looks like it is a little thicker at temp than the full synthetic. Would there be any benefit to running a blend...

This is why I don't let anybody else change my oil

I went over and changed the oil in my parent's '07 Avalanche last night since my mom is heading down to FL from TN and it was close to be due anyways. I got the oil drained and went to take off the filter and it wouldn't budge. The Silverado/Avalanche is not the easiest trucks when it comes to...

    UPF48 vs PF48/48e

i tried searching but nothing came up with searching for UPF48 which I thought was weird. Maybe a glitch? Since there are no more PF48's out there and only the e-Core PF48's I've been looking at getting the UPF48's. From reading around online it seems that only real difference is that they use...

Stick with M1 EP or go with something else?

On my last oil change I switched to M1 EP. I was hoping that it would stop my oil consumption issue but it hasn't (it might have slowed it down though). I have heard two schools of thought when it comes to different brands of oil. 1. You should stick with one brand of oil for the life of the...

M1 EP vs PP PurePlus - NOACK %

I have a 2008 Silverado with AFM so I get some oil usage. I ran PP for a long time but I started to get more consumption that usual so I switched to M1 EP. I noticed that I was getting some consumption with that oil so I'm thinking of changing again. The latest PQIA test results for PP is from...

Fram Ultra vs Purolator BOSS - Silverado

Has anybody cut open one of the new Purolator BOSS filters? I saw some posts just comparing the externals of the filter but nothing about the internal construction. What is the consensus on the new filters and do they seem pretty good? If there has been one, can somebody point me to that...

Silverado oil filter - Relief valve pressure ?'s

I stocked up on the old PF48 filters that I could find once they went to the e-core filters but I'm running low. So going forward I might have to go with another filter. I was looking at the specs of all the other filters (Wix, Purolator, etc) and the Delco's relief valve psi is 18-24 PSI...

Most important spec when looking at filters?

What is the most important specification when looking for a good oil filter? Is it the "Relief valve pressure?" It is getting harder to find any of the original PF48's for my truck so I am going to move to another filter soon. I believe the relief valve pressure for the PF48 is 9-12 psi (can...
