Chevron Delo 400 XSP 5W-40 experiences in 6.7L Ford

I agree with the posts “if you are still on warranty don’t do this…” However: Redline Break-in Additive had Zn 20500ppm, P 17000ppm, Ca (as detergent) 20000ppm on a VOA. Be cognizant that since it’s labeled and sold as break-in additive, the ZDDP is likely alkyl rather than aryl. And I don’t...

    20w50 for high horsepower application

It might be helpful to know a bit more specifics about the application. Like is this a line haul or vocational tractor or farm tractor; or a toy sled puller or toy souped up farm tractor; is it going to be used in Canada where GCWs can be quite a bit over 80k lb but winter temperatures colder...

2019 Chevrolet 3500HD 6.6 Duramax, Chevron Delo 600 ADF, 3k miles on oil, 5k on motor.

I wouldn’t recommend running this oil in Mongolia (3000ppm S) or even Russia (300ppm, though 10ppm sometimes available). Or any of a list of countries in Africa, Asia, or South and Mesoamerica with sulfur up to 5-10000ppm in the fuel. TBN isn’t measured by the presence of any particular...

Mobil Delvac ESP 5w40 vs M1 TDT 5w40

If that’s true I am glad I have a decade’s worth LE and SHC 5W40.

Mobil Delvac ESP 5w40 vs M1 TDT 5w40

Yes Doug, it is available in the US now. I use with great UOA results in my 09 BMW X5 35d which is is “emission system deficient”. Even before the “surgery”, the factory recommended C3 based oil (?LL08?) did very poorly as far as TBN and wear metals, due to NOx acidification in turn due to EGR.

New formula High Performance Lubricants HDEO 5w-40 installed in my new Duramax

It’s impossible to find a PDS on their site. 2.9 strikes against them. If I were looking for a boutique 15W40, including especially a CI4+ “legacy oil”, I’d use TRC (Texas Refinery Corp) products. Not the least because they make their product specs easy to find.

    Mobil delvac MX F3 15W40

There’s several boutique mfgs of what look like really good CI4+ 15W40s. Blue Ram in Canada, Texas Refinery Corp (TRC), and at least 2 others that I’ve run into. I can still order Mobil Delvac 1 SHC 5W40 from my local distributor with TBN 16, ash 1.9%, 1400ppm Zn, 1280 P. But not CI4+, it’s...

    High mileage diesel oil?

Find an oil high in esters, which tend to cause seals to swell slightly. Redline used a lot of esters. And so does Penrite in some of their products. Personal experience with the effect with Penrite Syn 75W90 gear oil.

    Rotella 0w40 no longer CJ-4/SN

With some difficulty I found a PDS that included TBN: 8.6. I was thinking about its’ usefulness for Canadians or northern tier USA states that make an annual trek to Mexico every winter; considering much Mexican diesel is still ~300 ppm.

Mixing oils - what viscosity do you get?

Look up Mr Widman’s site. He is a quality oil distributor in the lovely city of Sta. Cruz de la Sierra on the eastern side of the Bolivia Altiplano; in the tropical lowlands. He has an algorithm that I have saved for mixing miscible lubricants based on viscosity at: -5C, 40C, and 100C. I have...

    10w40 over 5w30 diesel

Agree with 229.51 unless owners manual requires even more stringent 229.52. Don’t get the 229.52 unless owners manual requires it. Some Mercedes car/SUV diesels are ok with 228.51 as well. Check Bevo; carefully. I would recommend the 10W40 over the 5W30 if you don’t live in a place with cold...

    Need advice: 32 vs 46

The 2003-6 U500NA (they only sold ~300) has some electrical differences (hybrid 12v/24v), pneumatic also (8.5 bar instead of 18.5), but hydraulic stuff is identical. Real sure, I think I know these things pretty well. The 5W30 has worked well but it’s time to change it and I’d appreciate 0.1-0.2...

    Need advice: 32 vs 46

I thought of that also. But… 1) >99.9% of my hours are turning 1-2 hydrostatic fans that consume minimal power and are at a small % of max rated rpm except when ascending long highway grades. 2) DTE 10 Excel is advertised by Mobil as a ”premium product”; why would they sell it, and why would it...

    Need advice: 32 vs 46

11 gal for fans, 2 winches and if needed 3.6-4kw hydraulic 120/240 generator. The volume is so great because some gadgets like giant snowbank eaters have a big drawdown if plugged in empty. Thanks for the electric fan thought, but I am NOT messing with a system on a $125k chassis that’s worked...

    Need advice: 32 vs 46

My 2005 Unimog U500NA owners manual calls for 10W hydraulic oil in the hydraulic system. The hydraulic system powers the rarely used winches, but also the radiator cooling fans. Low stress but constant use. Mobil’s 10W hydraulic oil has a vis40 of 37.7. I live in Anchorage which can rarely get...

    Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W40 CK-4 VOA

Actually the D1 you mentioned in the last line is Delvac 1 ESP 5W40. Let’s be accurate. Delvac 1 5W40 (without the ESP or SHC) is 1.4% with a stated TBN of 12; SHC is 16; ESP and other emission control variants are lower, as low as 7. The “plain” D1 5W40 is what I originally started using but...

    Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W40 CK-4 VOA

Roger about clean diesels. The pollutant that matters if you don’t live in a big urban area (98% of my Unimog driving is outside big cities, and 100% of my BMW X5/35d driving is around a quite small city with unpolluted air except for volcanic eruptions and forest fires) is, of course, CO2. And...

    Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0W40 CK-4 VOA

Maybe not “the best Delvac ” for all applications. I have ~38 US gal of Delvac 1 SHC 5W40 in my basement (sump of U500 = 7.4gal, burns 1L/2500 miles since new, it’s a ways to Mongolia and back). VOA shows Mg 27, Ca 4800, P 1280, Zn 1489, B 279, vis100 14.2, TBN 15.2. Obviously not equipped with...

Bars Leak H60 Hydraulic fluid additive

Story about esters: Driving 2005 Unimog U500 camper back from Mongolia in July 2016. Left front portal gearbox started leaking from inner seal just outboard of CV joint which is out in open. Vehicle had ~93K miles. We were camping about 250 miles NE from Moscow when I noticed it. I use Delvac...

    OCI for 2004 Cummins iSX

I suspect that 1) since the engine is 17yo, it gets low mileage and may be in a “boutique” application like a motorhome. 2) if the above is true it is also low stressed since the GVW is 3) since it’s 2004, not 05 or 06, it may not have EGR. I have a similar application, a Mercedes OM906LA in a...
