    Oil and Engine Life

I've been on this forum for a few months now and of course ALL THE RAGE is about oil, especially synthetics. Now I know that the claims are you can go further OCI's on synthetics and they protect better and cool better, etc... you get the point. Here's my question, has there been any documented...

    TOMBUCK...

Do you work for Amsoil? I've noticed all your last few posts, about 7-8 of them, have been in all CAPS and all promoting Amsoil. Just wondering. Is this stuff expensive when compared to oils you are more likely to find at an auto store?

Car is "falling apart", can I save it?

My in-laws have an '88 Acura Legend and it's virtually falling apart. Well, we did get new shocks and tires on it and a new water pump. There seems to be many hoses and seals that are about to go if not already needing replacement. When I was driving this car, I didn't know much about...

    An observation I've made...

I've noticed that many motorcyclists change their oil way too frequently. It seems that there's this saying that goes something like, "Why would you hesitate spending $50 on an oil change for an $8000 bike?" I've seen many bikers (especially sport bikers) changing their oil with full synthetics...

Why am I not getting my suggested MPG???

OK, I know the sticker is always generous (at least that's what I believe) but when I bought my car it said 28 street and 33 highway. Besides the day I drove to Las Vegas and back... I have not seen a single fill-up in where I even broke 28mpg average in my car. It's usually between 24-27 (27 if...

    Should I do a UOA?

This is the first time I'd ever do one. My bike has 4500 miles on it now, more or less... probably more. In about a hundred miles my oil will have a thousand miles on it, it's my first time using this particular oil. It is Motul Synth/Blend 15w-50. What do you guys think?

    Silkolene

I'm going to bite the bullet. Does anyone know where it is available in Southern California? Preferrably near the L.A. area. We have this HUGE, and I mean HUGE dealership just down the street (they sell Ducati, KTM, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and some various used...) but they don't carry...

When should I do a UOA?

I got a free oil analysis kit from Blackstone Labs and I want to have a UOA on my bike. It is a 2004 Kawasaki EX500D - an inline twin... it's carbureted and is really exactly 498cc's. I'm using Motul Synthetic Blend 15w-50 right now and I don't want to run it for too long without knowing how...

Does anyone have Redline or Silkolene UOA's for a motorcycle?

I'd be very interested to see these. Thanks.

    Power Steering Fluid

OK, my 2003 Toyota Matrix has about 14,300 miles on it now. The power steering fluid is looking rather brownish-black so I assume it's long overdue. How much will it cost, usually, to have it flushed and changed?

    Coolan/Oil Temperature

On average, what's the difference in degrees Fahrenheit between coolant temperature and oil temperature when they are at operating temp?

    Time for oil flow

The thread title may be a little confusing and have many meanings, but I've been meaning to ask how long oil takes to flow to where it should when a car is started. More specifically, Mobil 1 5w-30 in 40 degree weather. I want to know because I want to get it to that level, wait another 10-15...

    Mobil 1 factory fill?

OK, does this mean that when the vehicle leaves the factory and goes to the dealership there is Mobil 1 in the car? If so, I thought that was frowned upon? I'm not sure that's what it means but I thought you weren't supposed to have synthetic oil in the car during engine break-in? I was just...

    Sludge in my oil???

My 2004 Kawasaki EX500 (which I purchased last August) needed a new oil pan about a week before Christams. Anyway, I didn't get an oil pan until about 3 weeks ago so it sat for quite some time. When I installed the oil pan I filled it with Shell Rotella T like I usually do and I rode it for...

    Trusting the oil change folks...

I change my own oil on both of my motorcycles, but for my car - I take it to Jiffy Lube. How do I know, for sure, that they are putting in the oil I am giving them personally? I'd hate to spend $7+ per quart on my Mobil 1 only to find out they're putting in some $*** generic brand in there and...

    100k mile bikes...

There was something like this in another forum. I'd be very interested in seeing bikes that have easily made it over 100k and what the owner has done to get it that far. What makes this more interesting is that, aside from proper maintenance and lubrication, motorcycles don't see as many miles...

    Oil Recommendation for me???

Hi, all. You seem to be far more educated about oil than I am so I have a few questions. I have a 2003 Toyota Matrix (which is basically a Corolla) and it has 12,600 miles on it right now. At my first oil change I used some sort of Penzoil synthetic, I can't remember which. That was at 3,300...

    Need a little help, please.

Can someone please let me know where I can obtain an oil analysis kit? I'd like to do one for my 2003 Kawasaki ZX6R and 2004 Kawasaki EX500R. Thanks in advance.

    Switching to Shell Rotella T

Well... I was fine with the Mobil 1 MX4T until my engine started sipping it like hot coffee. I've never had the problem before but my oil level gradually started dropping the second I switched to the Mobil 1. I'm going to switch to Shell Rotella T for my next oil change which is still 2,200...
