Slight smell of gasoline in oil

I imagine any oil that has the blessing of API will do fine for at least 3K intervals. The Purolator classic filter will do well also. As for going to a synthetic and drawing the OCI's out, you may want to do a UOA first to make sure your engine isn't producing any significant contaminants in...

Slight smell of gasoline in oil

Probably normal, unless the smell is really strong. If you don't do so already, you may want to take the car on a little bit of a longer run, perhaps 40 miles or so, at least once a week. And it wouldn't hurt to send out a sample for a UOA.

OK, so I have received a range of replies. Everything from calling MMO "snake oil" to recommending that I keep it in for 3000 miles. I have certainly not found any evident that MMO will hurt my engine so I will leave it in for at least a while longer, perhaps up to 3000, and see if there is any...

    Best Cleaning Cycle?

OK guys, I have a question about cleaning using MMO. I did an OC a few weeks ago in my Saturn with 3 qts of PYB and 1 qt of MMO. The car currently has a bit over 148K miles on it. I have driven about 750 miles on this fill, most of it highway driving. I keep checking the oil and it has darkened...

Volvo dealer overfilled my S60 about 1/2 qt or so

Half a quart over in a 7 qt sump is nothing to worry about. Actually half a qt over is nothing to worry about regardless of capacity, unless it's got a really small sump. If the overfill is indeed due to them not letting all the oil drain, you may want to consider doing the OC's yourself. I let...

How many of you re-use your filters atleast once?

How many of you re-use your filters atleast once?

My concern wouldn't be how much life is left in the filter. My concern would be the almost 1/2 quart of old oil that would be left in the filter. When I change my oil I want to remove as much of the old oil as possible so it's a new filter per each OC for me.

How often do you redline your cars?

I suppose my driving would be considered boring to many (most?) of you. I have never redlined my vehicles. I rarely go beyond 3500 to 4K rpm. I am seeking the goal of obtaining the best fuel economy I can get without drastically changing my driving habits. My Saturn, with its 5 speed manual...

    Post your current MPG

2000 Saturn SL1. 147,533 miles. Currently averaging 35 MPG. With just a little bit of effort I have no doubt I can get it back to its original performance, which is 39 MPG avg.

I Think I'm Losing My Mind (Again)

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. It sounds like keeping the oil in my garage until I get it finished next year should not present any problems. Good to know.

    Post your latest oil change

2000 Saturn SL1 147,500 miles Uses about 1 qt of oil in 3,000 miles Out: PP 5W-30, Over sized Pure One filter In: Mix of PYB 5W-30, PYB 5W40, 1 Quart MMO Will run this combination about 500 miles as a cleaning cycle, then replace with Pennzoil HM 5W-30

Just picked up 33 qts of PP at Oreillys

Man, that's a deal! With my OCD tendencies I could see myself taking advantage of such opportunities too. The look on my wife's face the day she sees my new stash would be priceless!

    Life Expectancy of PYB

OK, it's a done deal. I changed my oil today, going with a mix of 1 1/2 qts of PYB 10W-30, 1 1/2 qts of PYB 10W-40 and a quart of MMO. I'll run that for about 500 miles and see if it has any positive effect. If I think it might benefit from doing it again, I already have enough leftover oil from...

I Think I'm Losing My Mind (Again)

I could have sworn I remember seeing a thread from someone not too awfully long ago (seems like it was within the last couple months) basically asking if modern motor oil will hold up well to being stored in an unfinished garage, where it gets pretty hot in the summer and pretty cold in winter...
