is airspace in oil bottles filled with inert gas?

Is the airspace in quart bottles of oil filled with inert gas to prevent oxidation before it get put in your engine? I'm doubtful for quart bottles, you can crack the top and let air in/out, but for the 5 quarts jugs that I've bought, they had foil sealed tops. I'm asking because a PP rebate...

does ethanol in gas kill need for gasoline additives?

Now that gasoline has at least 10% ethanol in the USA, will everyone now have clean fuel lines, intakes and valves? I've read many places that ethanol is a terrific solvent for gasoline related deposits, so I'm asking... will this be the death knell for fuel additives? I've also read that...

Is Quaker State synthetic EOP like Pennzoil Platinum?

They are both made by SOPUS (Shell Oil Products...), so it begs the question... is the latest incarnation of Quaker State synthetic made of the same base stock as Pennzoil Platinum? Johnny?! There seems to be a growing body of evidence than PP is the real deal, and may become the GC-type...

Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 Subaru Impreza TS 5840 miles

The only other thing of interest is insolubles, which at 0.3 for this last OCI, is virtually equal to 0.4 for the longer GC OCI. Nice drop in iron and lead levels (about a third of the GC OCI levels), some increase in copper (about 25 percent)... given that oil analyses could have a +/- 1ppm on...

GC the official oil of... pimps?

Isn't it Archbishop Don "Magic" Juan, former pimp turned minister since 1985, who dresses exclusively in green and gold, who says "Green is for the money, and gold is for the honeys!"? It seems as though the elves are quite the playuhs!

    oil additive dosage pump?

I just got to thinking how inconvenient it is to have to dose my oil with Lube Control every once in awhile... Is there any dosing device which could be used to add Lube Control at a rate of 1-3 oz per 1000 miles to the motor oil? Then you could just make sure to keep your LC tank filled and...

What is this component in AutoRX?

Wooly gnomes have it that they shear and press Iberian mountain goat hair to get the lanolin esters found in Auto-RX... Wouldn't you want your car to be more like a goat? Sure you would! (no apologies to the psycho green elf cult) [ April 29, 2005, 01:46 PM: Message edited by: bigpaulo ]

Can fuel additives make non-top tier gas into top tier gas?

http://www.toptiergas.com/deposit_control.html Looks like only a handful of gasoline retailers meet this top tier gas criteria for all grades of gas they sell. My thought is, and I don't know if this could be easily tested/quantified, can a fuel additive like Fuel Power, Techron, Redline SI-1...

GC:M1 0W-30 in 3:1 ratio, 7900 miles on oil, Subaru Impreza TS

Here are my UOAs... 3rd column is the ~1000 mile UOA on 3:1 Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30:M1 0W-40 (plus 4 oz Valvoline SynPower Oil Treatment, plus 4.5 oz Lube Control) I have a pretty good reason as to why my Fe and Pb are elevated... but let's see if BITOG can figure this one out. Thankfully...

Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 (mostly), 1000 miles on oil, Subaru Impreza TS

It's my first time, be gentle Actually, there's no need from the looks of this UOA... the suspected coolant leak? I had my system pressure tested twice by the dealer, and no pressure loss whatsoever... then it dawned on me, how do they pressure test? By removing the radiator cap and...

as gas prices go up, fuel efficiency becomes more desireable

Now that gasoline prices are pushing $2.10/gallon in Massachusetts, it got me to thinking about the longer term cost of using an "energy-conserving" oil as opposed to a "wear-metal-conserving" oil. I just switched from GC to a mostly Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 (with one quart of M1 0W-40 to...

why aren't all motor oils friction modified?

Is there any reason, other than cost, that some motor oils are not friction modified? Delvac1 comes to mind... thanks! Conversely, is there anyway for someone to "friction modify" such an oil, e.g. additize with Valvoline SynPower Oil Treatment, a slug of Redline motor oil, or Neutra 132?

any actual warranty denial because of 0 weight oil?

I'm wondering if anyone in BITOGia has ever personally experienced or personally known of anyone who has experienced denial of warranty coverage because they ran a 0 weight oil (0W20, 0W30 or 0W40). That is all. Wish we could have a poll... I'm guessing the practical matter is that they don't...

M1 0W30 no longer carried at AutoZone?

Stopped at my local (Everett, MA) AutoZone (AZ) Friday night, and while they are carrying a good selection of M1 EP oils now, they appear to only be carrying the new style bottles of M1 0W40... I ask an employee if they would still carry M1 0W30, and he said, probably not, the oils they carry...

can FP stabilize gas for winter storage?

Can Fuel Power be used to stablize gasoline in a lawn mower that's being stored for the winter? If so, yet another reason to buy/use Fuel Power... and another thing to add to the lubecontrol website!

recall fixed Odyssey auto tranny now has really low fluid level :(

This is a 2004 Honda Odyssey which had a recall repair done last fall (to add a jet to increase lubrication to the 2nd gear after a series of heat related failures). Took dealer 3 times to get the transmission not to leak. Now, just over 1 year since we bought the vehicle, it is making noise...

how much can you overfill Subaru Impreza TS oil?

I am fully aware of all the nasty things that can happen with *too* much oil, e.g. blown seals, PCV contamination, high oil consumption, frothing and general engine apocolypse However, I've been somewhat convinced that having more oil is better (longer oil life, mostly, due to dilution of the...

German Castrol GC batch numbers question

Just bought 5 quarts of beloved GC, and only 2 of the bottles had batch numbers printed on the bottom of the bottles (started with M040...) Does anyone know what bottles with no batch number printed on them means? What's the likely story? New, but missed a printing? Old pre-batch numbers?
