I did the forbidden wire trick....

Code Breakers… My neighbor fed a 16 ga. wire and wondered why his HF air compressor failed.

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

71.5 here… If I cannot rotate my tires and change my oil that would put me into the feeble old age group. A bit hard to set wheels on the studs now. Maybe this tool is in my future? https://www.harborfreight.com/1300-lb-capacity-self-loading-positioning-wheel-dolly-64601.html

Using conventional 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 synthetic in the winter

First thing is this goes in my 2019 Miata. My focus is the amount of viscosity index improvers needed (less preferred) for the difference and the quality of the base oil. I like 5w20 over 0w20 but for colder months and short trips maybe 0w might be better. IMO not much difference, like you say...

Using conventional 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 synthetic in the winter

Personally do 0w20 in fall and today’s change is 5w20 for warmer months.

    The problems with GDI

Mazda Skyactiv has an air/oil separator. (before the PCV valve) Still if there is a market you can be sold a can. (money before brains)

I sure do miss cheap oil.

We all would chip in a quarter for gas and hop in Rusty’s 67 Camaro and go down to Huntington Beach. Our bathing suits were shorts cut from blue jeans, normal for that day.

Lake Speed Jr. Tribologist discusses 0W8 motor oil

If you just focus on the oil side of it then your whipping boy is CAFE regulations and your super powers to bearing wear is HT/HS higher viscosity. The bigger picture is the fuel blend in the world region used, and all the hardware in the modern engine designed to work for the oil. I can even...

    Moly or Boron preference?

I did pick PUP due to the Borate Ester additive. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/unveiling-the-superiority-of-pennzoil-ultra-platinum-oil-a-detailed-analysis-by-mr-lake-speed-jr.370226/

    Moly or Boron preference?

Moly is an element, it is bonded to sulphur in different amounts to form a molecule. It works as intended when the oil gets hot. Boron also is not the straight boron atom just a form that works in oil and works in cold start oil. Not that I know a whole lot about it but they are not a moly or...

2022 Mazda Miata Club RF Recaro

Looks like my 2019 Miata. The Skyactiv is kinda picky on the oil filter due to the dual PSI oil pump. Mazda OEM oil filter recommended, but one aftermarket filter is made to cater to the Skyactiv engine. I started with a high moly oil but setteled with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Personally go with...

    0W8 and 0W12 API discussion

Here is a post from 2009. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/how-long-has-5w20-been-around.115391/ 5w20 was originally not synthetic.

    0W8 and 0W12 API discussion

Kinda like engine technology is hardware and oil is software. Like the info that USA/Canada does not control the world view with its CAFE regulations. Get used to thin, here to stay. (for some engines) 5w20 has been around for some engines for a really long time and seems to work fine.

How much does oil viscosity really change mpg?

But proof is how long they last at the recommended viscosity. Somehow they will always say they know better than another. The majority follow the recommendations. Even the military has reduced viscosity with little regard to CAFE laws and had not taken a hit on reliability. New engines are...
