    ML 350 oil cooler seals

A friend has to have this done. My question is: Is this cooler an oil to coolant heat exchanger or oil to air ? Thanks.

Using a tablet to provide music

Thanks to the advice I recived here I got things working. However...... I used a 'Y' adapter and an old set of ear buds which seemed to trick the tablet to play. All was well.....But! Sometimes the sound on the Tivoli would be very reduced and sound very scratchy. On these occasions playing...

    18v impact driver/wrench

I love the ridgid stuff because of the lifetime service agreement (which I have used after extreme wear on batteries and a motor) I would be tempted to try the Ridgid and return it if it doesn't work as well as you want. Nothing to loose!

    Hot water tank tripping (melting)

I replaced the burnt upper t'stat and things are working, so far. The tank is 3 years old, so it should be in reasonable shape.

Interesting all those upper t'stats look the same in your link, but different prices ??

    Hot water tank tripping (melting)

Yes burnt on the left side (down side in my sideways photo) the plastic cover had melted. Locally only an eastman upper t'stat is available, it looks slightly different to the one in this Moffit heater but not significantly.

    Hot water tank tripping (melting)

Looks like the problem is with the thermostat. All wire connctions are sound.

    Hot water tank tripping (melting)

Hi, No hot water yesterday, I checked the circuit breaker (OK) then the reset button on the tank (Moffit) and it re-set and all was well. This morning there is no hot water again. When I checked the re-set the plastic flap cover had partially melted and smelt of plastic. I have not re-set it...

    WD 40 as a lubricant

I ask this after using WD 40 as an easy spray lubricant/cooling agent on Oster dog clippers. Oster recommends (demand) you use their Cool product, but I tried WD 40 one time when I ran out and it seems to work better, and the blade operates quiter. I mentioned this to a hairdresser (yes, I know...

    Chainsaw chain

Just out of interest I bought a Chinese chain off ebay and found it far better than the box store Oregon chains I have used. I often cut in a dirty environment, so have taken to taking a couple of spare chains with me when I go out. I have better results sharpening the chain with the runners...

    WD 40 as a lubricant

Not sure what forum this should be on. But many of us at some time have grabbed the Blue can of WD 40 and used it, essentially, as a lubricant. Probably in every case there would be a better lubricant that could be used, but the can of WD 40 sits there handy. Has any body tested how good or...

A decent battery charger for sub $50?

I have a 10 amp 40+ year old Sears charger that serves me well. I think it was $5 at a garage sale. During the winter months it is connected though a Christmas light type timer to charge my car that is stored. 1/2 an hour a day works well, I typically get 8 -10 years out of a battery.

    Home phone/cell phone?

My home land line phone is my primary phone, but I like the ability to have a cell phone. I bought an unlocked Smart phone off Amazon for very little and a per paid sim card from our service provider for $100 for 500 minutes for a year. There is no lock in this way

    Fred Dibnah - British Steeplejack

Fred was a legend, one of the last of the old school tradesmen, but probably a man out of time even in 1980. The video on how he ladders a building or chimney I found most interesting. I have been kind of absent from bitog, have the rules on linking to videos changed? I once got a reprimand...

Using a tablet to provide music

Thank you. I will try the 'Y' adaptor trick. If that doesn't work maybe the Bluetooth adaptor. I imagine the adaptor needs to be powered somehow?

Using a tablet to provide music

For years we have used an old iPad to play music (radio streaming) through a Tivoli cabinet radio. We just use a cable from the headphone outlet into the aux in jack on the radio. The old iPad now does not hold a charge for any time at all, so I attempted the same arrangement with my Samsung...

Do single weight oils have a place?

I saw Jay Leno video where he drove an Areo engined Hispano-Suiza, he said he uses straight 50 wt Lucas engine oil. The engine is hardly stressed, why not use a multigrade? Starting it on a cold 50 wt seems crazy.
