Factory fill 5w30, 1,395 Miles, 2017 Chevrolet SS

Just to correct myself, I am wrong. GM says to use GM 88861800 in the TR-6060, which is re-branded Dex III.

Factory fill 5w30, 1,395 Miles, 2017 Chevrolet SS

I just did my first oil change in my new 2017 SS. Based on advice from some of the powertrain engineering hardware engineers at work I targeted the first change to be 1,500 miles assuming it should be nearly fully broken in at that point. A 900 mile weekend trip forced me to change it a little...

    M1 0W-40, 6,205 Miles, 2012 VW GTI 2.0L TSI

Been using it a while, this was the 2nd consecutive fill of M1 0W-40. Castrol 5W-40 (dealer fill) was in it before that.

    M1 0W-40, 6,205 Miles, 2012 VW GTI 2.0L TSI

I agree, most TSI's seem to have iron numbers in the 20s. My educated guess is high tension rings coupled with the iron block. It doesn't seem to burn a drop of oil, those rings clearly scrape the oil off the cylinders really well.

    M1 0W-40, 6,205 Miles, 2012 VW GTI 2.0L TSI

I know that the OE recommended interval is 10,000 miles on VW 502 spec oil. But I also know that VW also included 30,000 mile free maintenance, so I'm skeptical if the 10,000 mile interval was to save money on the maintenance program. Hence why I decided to do a UOA to find out. I'm not...

F150 ecoboost, what oils are available?

I feel like the trick with the EcoBoost is finding a oil with a low NOACK. Being direct injected, build up on the valves could be a concern. The turbos are water cooled, not oil cooled, so I don't believe a synthetic is technically necessary. I think SynPower is known for low NOACK though.

    1997 F-150 4.6l

I also have a 1997 F150. I hate to tell you but that oil pressure gauge is nothing more than a mere oil pressure switch. More than 8psi it reads full pressure on the gauge, less than that the gauge reads zero. I double gasketed a filter once and the gauge read full pressure as it was dumping oil...

Who actually keeps their vehicle forever?

I plan on hopefully keeping my 1990 Super Coupe forever. It is my first car, and I just rebuilt the engine which totaled around 3k. After dropping that kind of cash I'm keeping it. The transmission will be next, but luckily they are cheaper than an engine. It is a very unique car, pretty rare...

    OCI after headgaskets

Personally when I replaced my head gaskets I drained the oil and then the first flush I idled it for like 15 minutes. Then I drained and filled with another change of cheap dino and ran it like 300 miles. Drain that and then back to standard OCI. Maybe overkill, but I wanted to get all of that...

    M1 OW-40 + M1 HM 10W-40

Alright. Since since my pressure was barely under the recommended pressure for my engine with the 10W-30. I feel I want a thinner 40 weight. I currently feel that Mobil 1 0W-40 and M1 4T 10W-40 or T6 5W-40 would fit the job pretty well. I really like the specs the 10W-40 4T motorcycle oil (-54...

    M1 OW-40 + M1 HM 10W-40

I don't like how it seems very little is known about Castrol. Their data sheets are limited in the information that they provide. I'm highly considering the Mobil OW-40 I just don't like how it thins out. Or maybe I'll just overcome my fear of HDEO and use the T6.

    M1 OW-40 + M1 HM 10W-40

Okay let me rephrase that. A synthetic PCMO that I can buy locally for a reasonable price. That narrows that list to only Castrol. I'm not a Castrol fan.

    M1 OW-40 + M1 HM 10W-40

Hmm thats a little on the pricey side. And it won't be on sale for a while now. I'm thinking maybe just running straight OW-40 and see how it works. I really wish I could find Kendall GT-1 Full Synthetic 5w-40 European formula. No one around here sells it, maybe if I call Kendall they could help...

    M1 OW-40 + M1 HM 10W-40

I assumed the rod clearances are a little larger than stock because he said the clearances are set up for a 40 weight now. He originally told me the stock motor has very tight clearances for 5w-30. I do know the Wiseco pistons have a little bit higher piston to wall clearance just for the fact...

    M1 OW-40 + M1 HM 10W-40

Also Autozone has a deal on Mobil 1 right now, a 5qt+ jug or 5 single quarts plus a M1 filter for 29.99. I'm sure they will let me mix and match different quarts. So the price of the different Mobil products shouldn't be a concern.

    M1 OW-40 + M1 HM 10W-40

I will probably end up running the same oil year round. I just do not put many miles on the car 5000-7000 a year. So the oil choice I make has to work all year round. Ford spec'd a 5w-30 but I just had the engine rebuilt and he set the clearances for 40 weight. I can also verify it wants a 40...

    M1 OW-40 + M1 HM 10W-40

My search for a good yet affordable oil for my new 3.8 in my SC is still on. I'm really leaning away from diesel oils because of all the detergents. My engine just doesn't need all that detergent and I believe their is a reason very high performance oils don't have gobs of detergent. I'm...

Oil suggestions for new engine in my SC?

I am also kind of curious about Schaeffers Supreme 9000 oil in 5w40. I really have no clue what prices are for say a 12qt case of Supreme 9000 though. But I will say the specs on the data sheet seem quite impressive.
