the PF52 can replace the PF47 which is the original spec filter on our 3.8. I had to go look it up as I couldn't remember it as it has been so long since I have used the original sized filter.

Should be the PF52 or ACDelco equivalent to that number. It is the longer version of the one that is spec'd for the 3.8 in our 04 Grand Prix and what I run on it.
