    Delvac 1300 15W-40 / 3573 mi / '01 VW TDI

Jim 5, The Duron is Petro Canada's diesel engine oil. The Duron 5W-40 is a group 3 synthetic and I believe it was a api CH-4. TexasTDI, I really don't think the 5W vs. 15W will make much difference except during cold weather. Back in 2000 when that TSB came out it was very difficult to find a...

I don't pay extra for the additive count. I buy my analysis kits from Oilguard, less than $10 a pop.

    Delvac 1300 15W-40 / 3573 mi / '01 VW TDI

The PC Duron interval was about 90% highway miles. The Delvac 1300 interval saw 90% in town short trips. My wife drives the car and her commute changed from 35 miles to 1 mile. Big difference. Here's the data from a recent interval with Rotella T 5W-40 with 6818 miles, of which 3000 are a...

    Gear oil recommendation please?

'79 Chevy 1-Ton Truck with 4 speed Muncie and Dana 70 rearend with 4.10 ratio. I want to change the fluid in the differential and transmission. I will be driving approx. 2000 miles per year towing a 7,000 pound trailer with this truck. I don't want to spend the money for synthetic fluids. I...

    '79 Chevy 454 V8, Castrol 20W-50, unknown miles

Thanks Bror, I agree. This trucks a keeper. The propane tank and components are worth more than I paid for it. Also, the body has very little rust which is unusual for this model. I just hope that the number 3 rod isn't bent. Other than that I'm not too concerned.

    '79 Chevy 454 V8, Castrol 20W-50, unknown miles

This afternoon I found the 1 and 3 spark plug wires crossed. Maybe that explains some of the wear metals. I am amazed, this truck ran good. There was no indication of this ignition snafu. The engine did not rock or shake as they normally do when they have a miss and the exhuast note sounded...

    '79 Chevy 454 V8, Castrol 20W-50, unknown miles

I thought about using AutoRx but the valvetrain and head appear very clean through the fill hole. I don't think I have a sludge problem. What concerns me is the possibility of these abrasives becoming imbedded in the bearings. Anybody have any experience with this type situation? Will a couple...

    '79 Chevy 454 V8, Castrol 20W-50, unknown miles

Feast your eyes on this ugly report. I recently acquired this truck and found the airfilter deteriorating. It had several good size holes in the element and I'm sure about 90% of the air has been unfiltered for a while. This is a one-ton truck which may have been pulling some heavy loads...

    Delvac 1300 15W-40 / 3573 mi / '01 VW TDI

I am comfortable with dino in the TDI. I'm not comfortable with Delvac 1300 when we have our occassional dips below 20 degrees F. I have decided to use Rotella 5W-40 and will start doing annual changes. I don't think synthetic is necessary in this application(A4).

    Delvac 1300 15W-40 / 3573 mi / '01 VW TDI

Short interval here due to short one mile commute. The car gets a good 30 minute run on highway about once a month sometimes more. The oil was in service from Feb 21 to Nov 28. Quick Lubes Decry VW Oil Tie-in

I agree with you Jelly. The argument I have heard is if the camshaft gets any wear at all it will throw off the injection timing or injection pressures will decrease. Imagine a couple hundred thousand miles with absolutely no wear on the cam. Hard to imagine with any oil. I think the 505.01...

I have a question for all of you

Someone with much power and influence usually finds a way to build wealth. Did he try to keep everyone else poor? I doubt it. The poor stay poor whether or not you give them money. Most wealth comes from a strong desire to be rich, working hard, and a frugal lifestyle. I don't think I have ever...

Found older Pennzoil LL 15w-40 (with Moly) today

I think you are probably OK with Long Life. What do you get maybe 5 nights down around 10 degrees F? Cat recommends 15W-40 for normal low temps above 15F.

    Pennzoil HD30, 2080 miles, '94 Toyota 22-RE, High Pb &Si

I have used the OEM oil filter for the last 5 intervals. My air filter is 4 years old so I will be changing it anyway. I bring up the coolant because it is a different chemistry and my UOA results just don't make sense to me.

    Mystik JT-8 10W-30, 94' Toyota Pickup 22RE

I am wondering if I have a small amount of coolant contamination. I have been using VW G12 coolant. Does anyone know if G12 shows up as the usual K, Na, and glycol or is it completely different? I do have to add a cup or two of coolant each year to keep it full. I thought this was normal evap...
