    Any Battery Preferences

great replies and info, thanks! the battery currently in there is an Interstate which I bought because I had heard good things. I don't have my records with me right now so I'm not positive but I think it's over 4 years old so I guess we got our use out of it. I've been getting 5 years out of...

    Any Battery Preferences

hi all, it looks like I need a new battery for our '95 Odyssey so I thought I'd see if anyone has a clear preference for any brand. Many thanks, Greg

M1 HM vs M1+ lubro moly oil saver

as a follow-up; I changed the M1 5W30 with LubroMolu Motor Oil Engine Saver out to Mobil Series 200 HM without Motor Oil Saver and it seems that the leak is worse. This is based on checking the dipstick level and the level seems to fall a little more quickly with the HM. The drips from...

M1 HM vs M1+ lubro moly oil saver

I've got a pretty good rear main leak in a '95 Honda F22B1. I added a can of motor oil saver last year with M1 5W30 and it seemed to slow the leak down quite a bit but it didn't eliminate it. I might try the M1 HM next to see if there's any noticeable difference.

Meaure inner diamter of tube <1in

that's a great idea. I'll dig around on the net to answer this myself but is that easy to come by? It's literally just the stuff my dentist uses?

Meaure inner diamter of tube <1in

thanks for the great info all, I'll have a look at those. One problem with calipers is that I'm going to be trying to measure a venturi that could be several inches inside the tube. Also, some of those instruments look like they might be a little large to fit inside the tubing of my trombone...

Meaure inner diamter of tube <1in

Hi all, I want to build a profile of the inside of a trombone. Really there are just a couple of pieces that I'm interested in but it would be interesting to try and get the whole thing. The inner diameter does vary somewhat along the lengths of tubes that make up the instrument but I'm at a...

Candians - shipping samples to US; who do you use?

As a further follow-up to this, I spoke with Fedex. They asked that I check the MSDS for the oil and look for the IATA info. In this case it is shown as "Not regulated" so Fedex will ship this as a regular package. I'll report back with results. Greg

Candians - shipping samples to US; who do you use?

That's what I was trying to do; ship from Shopper's Drug Mart. I heard back from Purolator and their carrier in the US (UPS) says "waste oil samples" are an unacceptable commodity but Purolator will ship within Canada. Will try others and report back. Greg

Candians - shipping samples to US; who do you use?

It looks to me like the sampling facility for Toromont is in Ontario; any suggestions on shipping method?

Candians - shipping samples to US; who do you use?

I'm not yet sure if Canada Post really considers oil a hazardous material or not. So far I haven't found anything online stating that's the case so I think it falls into a grey area where it's up to the discretion of the people behind the counter. The people behind the counter today deferred the...

Candians - shipping samples to US; who do you use?

Hi all, I just tried to send a couple of samples to Blackstone from Canada and Canada Post won't accept them for shipping. I've sent them before without any issue and I might simply try a different office. Are any of the couriers any better for this? Thanks Greg

Good source for used car comparisons?

sorry, what's KBB? Also I forgot to check truedelta. I've been making half-assed contributions to it regearding my Civic but I've sort of lost momentum on that.

Good source for used car comparisons?

thanks for the replies, all. I checked out Edmunds and it's pretty good. I still don't love the final ratings (in my mind a car that has common trans failures at 90-100k miles shouldn't be getting 4 ou of 5 stars but maybe there are more things to be taken into account). One feature I really...

JB WEld Hi Temp on Manifold - burning off?

yeah, I should've thought that one through before putting the stuff on there. I swear the packaging suggested manifolds as one of the uses but I see now they don't recommend it. I wonder if it's older package or something but the temperature numbers should've been enough of a clue. (I'd try and...

JB WEld Hi Temp on Manifold - burning off?

Hi all, has anyone else tried using JB Weld High Temp on their exhaust manifold? The stuff I put is causing a burning smell (really bad) after driving the car for a few mintes. I'm worried that it's going to catch fire or something; should I try and chip away whatever I can before driving the...

Good source for used car comparisons?

Hi all, I'm shopping for a used car and have been using the "Lemon Aid" used car guide for some of my research but I find it a little inconsistent; Honda Civics are rated as an average small car in one section but Acura ELs are rated as a recommended mid-Size car - they're mechanically very very...

Blown Engine - Reuse intake on new engine?

thanks for the replies, all. just as a follow-up I decided to just hose down the new intake with intake cleaner and put it to use. If I were in a position where the original was very expensive of rare then I'd be looking into hot-tanking. Greg

Blown Engine - Reuse intake on new engine?

Hi all, the engine is toast in my '95 Odyssey (sounds like a coffee can full of marbles in a clothes dryer, lots of metal shards on the drain plug etc). I'm pretty sure at least one bearing is gone so I'm swapping the engine for a used JDM version. I'm working at prepping the replacement and...

Bearing went bad, ok to re-use oil cooler?

Thanks again for the replies all. Ordered the replacement engine today and it doesn't come with a cooler, unfortunately. You folks got me thinking that if I swap my cooler over I don't think I'm going to be comfortable no matter how clean it actually is (like used underwear? ). Not sure at...
