    Citric Acid Flush Precipitate

I would have used filtered water from my pond for the flush water. I was expecting that there were calcium and rust deposits in my engine as previous owners may have used tap water for coolant.

    Citric Acid Flush Precipitate

I've done several citric acid flushes on older cast-iron engines and I've noticed that there is a white precipitate that settles out. Any idea what this white precipitate might be?

    2002 Dakota Coolant

I see that there have already been several topics about coolant for this vehicle but they're a few years old now. My 02 Dakota has a 3.9L engine and the owner's manual calls for a 5-Year HOAT, (Mopar PN 5011764AB). It appears that the previous owner did the last flush & fill in 2011 so it's...

    Oil for my 65 mustang.

You could probably use a Starburst oil and not have any long-term wear issues with it. I use 10W-30 Petro-Canada Duron SHP HDEO in my slant six because it is also suitable for API SN. See Engine Wear.

    Scan Tool recommendation

I'm still using the Elmscan 5 USB with my ThinkPad 380Z that I bought many years ago and it has data logging capability. I would get a ScanTool OBDII scanner. https://www.scantool.net/scan-tools/

    Hard Drive Upgrade

Update. I bought a 250 GB Samsung SSD from Canada Computers on Wednesday. Since I have 6 SATA ports on my motherboard, I now have 3 drives in my computer with the old 160 GB OS drive as an eventual back up drive once have everything running properly. The new SSD and clean install does make a...

    Hard Drive Upgrade

Thanks for the very thoughtful advice. Ideally, I would like to get a new computer but my current machine runs well enough and it's not in the budget right now. I'm thinking that I will buy a SSD as my new c: drive (OS and programs) and wait for a good promotion on a [WD/Toshiba] 1TB NAS hard...

    Hard Drive Upgrade

Thanks for the prompt replies. I hadn't thought about SSDs because I thought they were too expensive. I see that BestBuy.ca has some reasonably-priced 250 GB drives and I haven't looked much further yet. Is there a better SSD drive to look out for? As for Seagate, I haven't had much experience...

    Hard Drive Upgrade

I'm still using an old desktop computer I built many years ago and upgraded to W10 from a WXP to W8.1 Pro promotion (~2014?). It seems to be bit a bit slow starting up so I'm thinking that doing a clean re installation of Windows 10 couldn't hurt. I currently have 2 hard drives: 160 GB c: (OS)...

    Oldest daily use computer?

The oldest working computer I have is an an Osborne 1 although I have to admit that I haven't fired it up for several years. Besides that, I have a ThinkPad 380Z that I use regularly (ie, the odd time when I get a CEL) as an OBDII reader. My everyday computer is a Windows 10 Pro desktop I built...

    RJ45 Connectors

I checked the cable I was planning to use and it appears to be CAT5e outdoor and I have a spool of Lucent CAT5 indoor. I also found that I have some RJ45 jacks and might consider using them. Then again, I might also just practice crimping some connectors. My ISP uses the T568 wire assignment...

66 barracuda Carter four barrel needs starting fluid

I've found that gasoline evaporates from my carburetor if it sits for any length of time. One thing you could do is add a solenoid-style electric pump wired into your starter circuit so that it only runs while you're cranking. See Vapor Lock.

    RJ45 Connectors

I'm planning the additional wiring in my garage so I was planning to connect devices directly with male plugs. A wall plate with female jacks would be neater but unnecessary. I have wall plate in the house and connect to them with patch cables. My ISP left me with lots of surplus cable and I'm...

    RJ45 Connectors

I want to run some new Ethernet lines and will have to terminate each end with RJ45 connectors. I'm running low on connectors and they seem to a bit pricey from places like Home Depot. The ones on Amazon seem to be quite a bit cheaper but some of the reviewers complain about poor quality. Any...

    Health and Wellness

I have diabetes and have been learning how to cure myself of it. From what I've learned, over-consumption of carbohydrates is the root cause of Metabolic Syndrome (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, etc) so John McDougall speaks nonsense. There is no minimum dally requirement for...

    Diabetes

My wife tells me that the Keto Diet is popular with a group of her coworkers but she doesn't think that many of them follow it closely or for very long. She knows of one who appears to has lost a lot of weight and is keeping it off. The prevailing nutritional wisdom seems to be that dietary...
