    I have a 97 328i with a 5-speed transmission. It's the ZF transmission, same one that comes in the m3s. From the factory it calls for ATF.     the warantee is through the used engine supplier, and it also covered labor, the piston slap goes away after the temp needle has budged, so maybe 5-10 minutes after starting, and it doesn't start the noise until a minute after starting. Wierd I know.
