Help me with Mobil 1 Engine Oil Table

I have 2 copies of the Mobil 1 Engine Oil Table that shows phosphorus/zinc levels for their synthetic oils. The first, dated 5/27/10, is when most of their oils were rated GF-4 SM. These oils, 0W-20 AFE, 0W-30 AFE, 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-20 EP, and 5W-30 EP are all listed as 800 phos/900 zinc. Their...

Help! - They downsized my oil filter

My 2003 3.3l Chrysler used a Mopar xxxx oil filter and I always used a larger filter like the Pure PL 14670. I just got a used 2008 3.3l Dodge and it calls for a Mopar 4105409, which is what they used to use on the 4cyl engines. The Pure would be PL 10241. What can I use in place of the PL 10241...

    Mobil 1 0w30 dexos?

If this question has been previously answered, please point me to the response. Why is Mobil 1 0w30 NOT dexos approved whereas Mobil 1 5w30 is? If Mobil 1 0w30 was dexos approved, I would probably use it rather than GC 0w30 - I know GC 0w30 is not dexos approved either, but I consider it...

Chrysler symbol on Mopar oil filters

I wonder how long it will take before the new "winged" Chrysler symbol replaces the old "winged" symbol on the Mopar oil filters? My guess - probably never.

Which oil will "hold up better" with fuel dilution

If this question has been answered before, please direct me to the answers. I live in Minnesota and have a car with 200,000+ miles, so I am going to get fuel dilution in my oil - especially in the winter. So is an ester based oil like Redline better for holding up with fuel dilution than a PAO...

    Did Exxonmobil hire Matlock?

Preface: The following discourse is in no way to be construed as a Mobil 1 "bashing". I believe Mobil 1 is a fine oil - along with many other brands. This is just what I noticed when I was comparing the Mobil 1 0W-40 old (2006) PDS to the new (2010) PDS. I expected the "Typical Properties" to...

wheelchair bearing grease - what to use?

I am trying to decide what grease to use on my daughter's wheelchair - front caster wheel bearings (608 type skateboard bearings), caster fork, etc. These bearings can be taken apart and manually greased. There is NO need for high speed like in a skateboard. What IS needed is a grease that will...

Should I marry Redline and Mobil 1 motor oil?

In a previous post, I lamented the cost increase in Redline 0W30from $8/qt to $10.95/qt and am thinking of switching to Mobil 1 HM 5W30. I still have 6qts of RL. Should I add 1qt of RL to 4qts of Mobil 1 for the next 6 oil changes or use the RL up in one oil change and then change completely to...

Redline too expensive - now what?

I have been using Redline 0w30 in my Chrysler van for over a year now. I know this is complete overkill, but the engine has no leaks and I could get it at my speed shop for $8.00 a quart ( June 2010 ) and no shipping charges. Just went there yesterday to order another case and the price has...

    Bosch Distance Plus bypass valve?

Has anyone taken apart or closely looked at a Bosch Distance Plus bypass valve - maybe for the D3500? Is it the same as the Premium Bosch filter? The Purolator Pure 1? Is it a 45 record adaptor like in some of the old oil filter pictures or have they upgraded it to something else? If so what is...

    Mopar Filter Questions

I know the specified Mopar oil filter for my 2003 3.3l is #05281090. What about using either a Mopar P4452890 or a Mopar 5037836AA oil filter? What is the difference between these last two and could I use either one in place of the standard 05281090?

Pour Point of RedLine 0W30 - How do they do it?

The pour point of RL 0W30 is listed as -60C or -76F. This really seems to be low compared to some other oils. Does anyone know how they achieve this - exotic pour point depressant? lots of PAO added to the ester? I live in Minnesota, so this oil could be perfect for me, but it almost seems too...

I know from reading BITOG that The Donaldson P169071 is a replacement for the Motorcraft FL1a. Is the Donaldson ELF 7349 also a replacement? Or to put it another way, what is the difference between the P169071 and the ELF 7349?
