How similar are ESP 0w-20 and 0w-30?

This is great info, and is the answer to the question I asked to start this thread. Thank you!!! Didn’t realize the base oils were ever so slightly different between the two oils. Good to know they use the same add pack. These really are two oils, that if one wanted to mix, would do quite well...

How similar are ESP 0w-20 and 0w-30?

Why? It’s a thin 30 grade oil that shears heavily, and carries fewer approvals than either ESP oil. Nothing wrong with it either, and I’ve used it. But it’s far from Mobil’s best oil.

How similar are ESP 0w-20 and 0w-30?

No not at all. Your engine generally shows significantly less wear on a 30 grade oil. Check out some of the UOAs on your engine.

How similar are ESP 0w-20 and 0w-30?

The correct answer is that the 0w-20 is green. Haha. I’ve used both in our van. Has the 0w-30 in it now. Don’t notice a difference honestly. I know they target different specs but they seem similar: both are API SL and meet SP engine test requirements.

How similar are ESP 0w-20 and 0w-30?

I know that both contain esters, gtl, pao. According to Mobil’s product sheet, the 0w-20 flavor has slightly more phosphorus and zinc. Are the other additives pretty similar? I know that 0w-30 has a much higher HTHS.

    Good hydration drink alongside water?

We drank lots of water, and water with Liquid IV added during a recent trip to Disney World. Tastes pretty good too.

    Which tire protectant?

All rubber will bloom naturally. Sometimes it’s white. But removing it isn’t harmful. As for the UV part, I don’t know. But the brown looks terrible so I like to remove it. I’ve never had tire life shortened by applying 303, which itself is a UV protectant.

Regional Only multi-location gas station chains near you?

Just came across Enmarket on a recent trip. We stopped at one to use the bathroom and the entire street in front of the station was roped off with police presence haha. Something must have happened across the street. Also the sink didn’t work. The store seemed fine though.

Who services U-HAUL , Penske and other large moving trucks etc?

I have a customer who services heavy trucks, and also rents Penske trucks from his shop. So I assume he, and shops like his, services them. He also works on county plow trucks and the like.

Is there a downside to using E-15 in a newer vehicle

Nope just more fuel used. I’ll be using their E15. They are opening a Sheetz near me soon.

Would you buy a “New Car” that is 15 months old?

My parents bought a new ‘old’ Hyundai Sonata back in 2017. It was a 2016 model and they got a nice amount off MSRP, since the 2017s had a refresh. IIRC, my old 2008 Sedona, which I bought used, was built about 13 months before it was ever registered.

I think I saw your post on the Carnival forums about that.

Interesting fluid temp observations on our ‘24 Carnival

Just got back from our trip. Well over 2,000 miles driven in mostly 90+ degree weather, and some mountains. Timing was never pulled on 93 octane that I could see. Hottest the oil got was 241F while running high speeds at 95F ambient. Glad I had a 30 grade in the sump. Fuel mileage was also great...

Clorox bleach shelf life... I had no idea.

I never knew either. I just figured one bought a gallon of bleach and used it forever haha. We rarely use it to clean anything.

Interesting fluid temp observations on our ‘24 Carnival

It really is a world of difference. It still tries to shift too soon, like most new cars. But at least with premium it has the power to accelerate at low rpm. The van is in negative timing quite often under load with 87, per live data stream.

    Suggestions for mechanics stethoscope

A very long screwdriver is only a few bucks!!! I kid, but they are useful and effective for tracking down serpentine drive issues.

Interesting fluid temp observations on our ‘24 Carnival

With ESP 0w-30 in the sump, we just drove from Detroit to Orlando over the past two days. I was curious if the thicker oil would lead to higher oil temps, but it did not. Still running the same 238/239 sump temps on the highway when under a little load. Will drop down to 235 ish or lower when...

A new type of security blanket for young people?

I’m 35, and hoodies have been a thing for a very long time. A hoodie is basically my jacket unless I need a winter coat haha. I don’t wear them in warm weather though.
