    FAQ - GC ( German Castrol )

So, how long has Castrol been making the 0W-30 in Belgium, and how long has the 0W-40 been available? I was in Autozone yesterday and saw both for the first time. Has the formulation of the 0W-30 changed and/or is the 0W-40 equally magical? Autozone had both labeled as Castrol Black.

    How shear-stable is M1 0W40?

I tried to put in a smiley to indicate I was joking about the engine thing, but I suck at internet.

    How shear-stable is M1 0W40?

I'm sure this is a stupid question from an oil guru perspective, but how do you know if you have the "SN" flavor of this oil? I just bought some of this oil in hopes of reducing some consumption, and the bottles say it meets or exceeds API SN, SM, SL. I'm assuming that means it's an SN oil...

Self propelled walk behind ES - Honda or JohnDeere

I'm going through the same dilemna right now. I have to buy a mower, soon, and I've pretty much decided on the John Deere JS46/48, or one of the Honda HRX series mowers. My gut tells me the Hondas are a better mower, but I grew up on a farm and have a thing for Green & Yellow, even if it isn't...

    Oil Analysis Question

How long can a sample sit, prior to being analyzed, without impacting the results? I have a sample of Mobil 1 0W-40 that I never had tested, and it's now been sitting for well over one year. It's been in Blackstone's mail packaging the entire time. Would it be pointless to send it in considering...

    Air filter fail.

Good God. I think I would have bought them a new filter out of my own pocket had I been there and seen that mess. That filter probably has its own ecosystem.

    how are K&N oil filters?

Well, I just hope the K&N filter doesn't suck because I'm probably going to be putting one on my 2001 4.7L Jeep Grand Cherokee over the next week or two. I'll probably also be buying another one in order to take advantage of the Autozone Castrol Syntec/K&N filter deal. I wonder if I could return...

    Now that Bosch owns Purolator......

Didn't this acquisition happen several years ago? http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/02/23/211511.html

    how are K&N oil filters?

Well, Champion Labs did confirm that the filtration media isn't exactly the same between the K&N & Mobil 1, but said it was very similar. The guy I spoke to also said the best filter they make is their new Royal Purple filter.

    how are K&N oil filters?

So you've actually taken the two filters apart? As for marketing speak, I wouldn't put much faith in that as far as determining the actual contents of a product. I'm curious, so I'm going to contact Champion and see what they have to say, if anything.

    how are K&N oil filters?

The certainly look the same. http://www.rubiconownersforum.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=58887 It would be interesting to get a definitive answer from Champion Labs on whether or not the filtration media is different.

    how are K&N oil filters?

I took advantage of the same deal, and will probably be going back again before the offer expires. I believe they are running that sale through 08/26. It saves you close to 21 bucks. I figure that ain't too shabby. The K&N filter is a Mobil 1 filter with a nut on the end of the case.

    2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.7L V-8. Amsoil S2K 0W-30(10,700 Miles)

That bad, huh? Maybe I'll just go back to changing my oil more often and quit paying for the oil analysis. Or maybe I'll just refill with dirt and hope my extended warranty pays for the rebuild.

    2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.7L V-8. Amsoil S2K 0W-30(10,700 Miles)

There's no logic, really. I just haven't bothered to reinstall my stock intake.

    2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.7L V-8. Amsoil S2K 0W-30(10,700 Miles)

Here's a higher resolution image. I'm running Mobil1 0W-40 right now. What oil would you suggest, Pablo. I actually thought the GC did pretty well in comparison to the other oils I've tried. I'm kind of tired of experimenting and paying to have each oil analyzed. My current plan is to the pick...

    2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.7L V-8. Amsoil S2K 0W-30(10,700 Miles)

I may have to rehost that image at some point. I'm away from home and it's the best I can do under the circumstances. It's kind of hard to read.

    2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.7L V-8. Amsoil S2K 0W-30(10,700 Miles)

My latest report. This is German Castrol Gold. I reused an Amsoil EaO filter. The filter had ~ 17K miles on it at the time this sample was taken. Just add up the miles of my last two reports if you want a precise mileage. I think this report seems pretty good, but I'm no expert. I have the oil...

    Mobil 1 0W-40 Question/s

I think this oil may have eliminated some valve chatter that I had been experiencing on startups. My Jeep also hasn't blown up from the increased viscosity. So far, so good.
