    Quaker State Syn blend?

I picked up someome sorta by mistake. 5 qt jug was gold like the UD I have been using, that WM didn't have. It said it was Dexos rated, and had a 7$ rebate sticker on it that doesn't look like it is for it. QS claims it has 50% syn base, d it was Dexos rated, and had a 7$ rebate sticker on it...

How Often Do You Change Plugs?

I stopped changing them long ago, and only do when they stop working. Had a situation when with 10K mi on plugs I changed them. I cleaned and gapped them and tested them on a tester that had a meter that read Good, Fair, and Poor. They were in the poor zone. With about 1K mi on the new plugs I...

    Filter Magnet

Been looking at the magnets that go on the outside of a filter cartridge, and hold metal particles to the inside of the case. Wonder how much particles could come off a motor after breakin? I have roller tappets. I can see using something like it for gears, that are always in contact or switched.

    07' Subaru timing Belt Change?

Have a few yrs before it is scheduled, but debating weather to tackle it myself or get it done. Car is an 07' Subaru with Very low mi, like 15k, so may have 20K on it when supposed to be done. Recommended is 105K mi or 105 mo.I know mi aren't the only reason to change. I think part of the cover...

    Tire pressures with AWD

I want to lower tire pressures in a manual trans AWD Subaru. It has a viscous coupling/diff. The auto uses electronically controlled clutches. Being AWD they say the fr and rr tires have to be the same size or damage can be done to the center diff. Wondering if lowering fr and rr pressures a few...

    UOA for transaxle oil

Anybody had it done it? Thinking of having mine tested to see what is going on, to see if the GL5 oil is affecting the trans and syncros. I've read many things like they have deactivators for the EP adds that protect yellow metals, or they only put enough of the adds in to not hurt them too...

    Transaxle oil?

Have an 07' NA Subaru and am thinking about the gear oil wearing the synchronizers. GL5 is recommended, but 5 is for a rear, and GL-4 is for a trans. Being a transaxle up front it seems like something between the 4&5 would be better. 5 is said to have more EP extreme pressure adds for a rear...

    Battery Condition?

Wonder what you guys think. I have an 07' 4cyl Subaru with the original batter in it, and noticed it cranked slow when cold last winter. Don't use the car that often, maybe once a week, and only have 15K mi on it. Have 5W30 QSUD oil in it. Thought the battery was probably the min size or getting...

heating the oil for a cold start

Thought about using a dip stick or engine block heater to warm the oil on a cold start. Wonder if it would work out?

    Picking a decent oil...

Been going around and around about oil. Want to use a decent oil but not spend too much. Been using QS ultimate durability. Who says it is group lll though QS says it's synthetic. I have read an MSDS that says their 5W30 is slack wax and PAO and additives, but then their 10W30 just says PAO plus...

    Floor Jack Oil ?

I bought a floor jack, and it didn't raise the car very far. Unloaded it goes a lot higher, about twice as high to the spec. Figure the oil is low. Can I add something like straight mineral oil sold as a laxative, so I don't have to buy a bunch of jack oil? That should be pure mineral oil. It...

    Mineral vs Synthetic?

I have a new Subaru I plan to switch to synthetic after the 2nd change. I don't put many miles on the car, 3500 in a yr, and mainly highway. I have an 86' Chevy with 81k on it, and planning to use the oil I drain from the Sube in it. I think Synthetics last a lot longer, and with mostly highway...
