Which oil for a Kawasaki 21hp?

I have a Kawasaki 21hp FH941V engine on a Gravely zero-turn mower that gets run about 6-8 hours at a time, every other week. West Texas, typical summer temps right around 100, with LOTS of dust (thin grass, 10% humidity). The engine manual calls for straight SAE40 oil, and shows 10W-40 up to 90...

    What are these gelatinous chunks?

After the Citrus Acid wash and with the new water pump, the temps are rock-solid at 180* where the t-stat is rated, even idling at stop lights after highway runs in 90* weather.

Coolant for an old iron V8 with an alum radiator?

Thanks everybody for the info - I went with Zerex G-05 as it's readily available locally at a decent price. After the Citrus Acid wash and with the new water pump, the temps are rock-solid at 180* where the t-stat is rated.

Coolant for an old iron V8 with an alum radiator?

In this post (Gelatinous Chunks) I got the low-down on cleaning out my old '71 Buick's cooling system, and was planning on using good old Conventional Green coolant once I get it all back together. Cast iron block and heads, Aluminum intake manifold and radiator. Then I got to wondering.... is...

    Coolant for a neglected '00 Silverado 5.3?

2000 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3 V8, 150K miles. I got a great deal on the truck used, and am pretty sure the DPO didn't take much care of it. The heater core keeps plugging up with orange goo, but will easily clear with a core backflush. The engine runs fine, no overheating or other issues that...

    What are these gelatinous chunks?

Yes I recently installed the heads, could well have gotten oil n the coolant passages in the process. I'm going to flush the radiator, as well as the block while I've got the radiator out. Thanks for the advice! Silicate dropout - learn something new every day...

    What are these gelatinous chunks?

What are these gelatinous chunks? So I just got this '71 Buick 455 back together and running after it sitting with the radiator out for 5 years and the heads off for the last year... In the process, I put in a brand new aluminum radiator with 2 each, 1" cores that's been sitting in a box for a...

    New MotorCraft FL9 cut open

It's not that old, at least it hasn't been on my shelf nearly that long. I picked this up from Rockauto.com just awhile back on a wholesaler close out. Now, there's no telling how long it sat on 4 or 5 other people's shelves. Anybody know how to decode that production code on it? Maybe there's...

    New MotorCraft FL9 cut open

Like the AC Delco I just posted, this is used mostly on old Buick engines from like '68 to '87, I'm thinking that not much has changed in their design in decades other that maybe materials. I had this on my shelf and won't be using them - and I just got this oil filter cutter, so... MotorCraft...

Filter for a mild Buick 455 - not much cross-refs

Thanks for the heads-up on the TG25! Oddly enough, searching based on the vehicle never turned up any Fram but the base PH25. Rock auto also has Mobil 1 filters for $2.50, and Wix's for $4 or so, so I've ordered 3 each plus the TG25's, so I'll be able to make some comparisons. I'll post some...

Filter for a mild Buick 455 - not much cross-refs

Looking for a good oil filter, where efficiency (catching particles) is my priority. The car is a '71 Buick LeSabre with a mild performance, recently (8-mile track for test-n-tune. I drive it easy until it's warmed up and don't drive it like my hair is on fire, although I do like to open it up...
