F-4 Phantom II has retired as a target drone

http://www.popularmechanics.com/military/aviation/a24434/f-4-phantom-retiring/ Last QF-4 target drone flights this month. Not sure if the Greeks are still flying them or not. We certainly got our money's worth out of this platform, The multi-service fighter that was never intended to be. Our...

    Toyota Tacoma frames part II

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-toyota-settlement-idUSKBN1370PE I have a 2010 that I bought new and had rust proofed and kept the annual inspections up to date. I have not noticed any rust yet, but I have not inspected the inside of the box sections, where they seem to be rusting. I had seen...

Gov't wants to lower speed limits for trucks

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-truck-bus-speed-limit-20160826-story.html Recently there have been some pretty bad semi accidents in my area, I don't know that this is the answer. Around here we have had several cases of trucks plowing into stopped or slow traffic so I don't...

    Aluminum Floor Jack recommendations

I recently had to change a flat tire along the road on my wife's Genesis Coupe. Before I left home I grabbed my floor jack, air tank, a 1/2 ratchet, extension, and correct size socket for the lug nuts. I didn't want to have to fiddle with the scissor jack, etc... Of course my floor jack wouldn't...

    Hudson auto museum visit

My riding buddy and I rode up to Shipshewana yesterday to visit a Hudson auto museum. It was pretty cool with a pretty large collection. My grandfather was a Hudson man (although long before I was born). He owned a couple of new Hudson Hornets in the late 40's / early 50's...

    Motorcraft Battery?

I forgot to put the tender on my 2008 Mustang GT last fall. The original battery discharged badly. It's on the charger now. I knew it would likely need replaced soon. I probably should put a new one in anyway. I'd like to put a Motorcraft battery in it. Are they any good? Searching around the...

Founder of BlackStone Labs passes away

I just got my newsletter and found out that Jim Stark, founder of BlackStone Labs here in Fort Wayne passed away in November 2015. Reading the story at the end of their news letter, it sounds like he was an interesting guy. He served a tour in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic in the 1st Cav...

I just registered with the FAA as an UAS operator

Great fun, surprisingly the website actually worked. I don't think that we had a problem in this country with RC model aircraft until you could walk in to Best Buy as an example, and walk out with a 5 pound quad copter and an hour later be at 1000 feet with little or no skill.

    Next Buick built in China

http://jalopnik.com/americas-next-new-buick-will-be-made-in-china-1746273854 My initial thought is anger (defense mechanism I guess). Then I thought, GM doesn't make anything I'm really interested in, especially Buick. However, I'm still concerned about the trend.

    Yesterday was Sky Maint. day

Wife's car, 2008 Saturn Sky 2.4L manual, 30,000 miles, oil change, tire rotation. Found the positive battery terminal corroded, fixed that. We bought it new. 1st GM car that I didn't know the service advisor on a 1st name basis. Only issue I know of is Left side mirror adjustment stopped...

Are there members that Fly RC Aircraft?

Just curious, don't see it mentioned often, other than the typical "Drone" discussion. I have a small quadcopter, but can't get real excited about it. I guess since it's not a scale model of anything. Over the years I have sold off all of my nitro stuff and have gone full electric. Brushless...

    Trust Your Feeler Gauges?

Do you see the problem in this picture? IIRC these were made by Kosman, all the other gauges check good. I thought maybe there were two stuck together, but that is not the case.

    Stud removal tool experience

Rebuilding a Honda 750 motorcycle engine and need to remove the cylinder studs to install heavy duty studs. some of these are 1 foot long. They neck down to 6mm diameter. I'll be attaching the tool down low, on the smooth part of the stud, near where they enter the engine case. Does anybody...

    Aluminum Body Panel Repair

This was mentioned in another unrelated thread, with enough dialogue that it probably deserves it's own. There is a lot of concern in the industry and on BITOG about how these panels should be repaired. I have seen everything from not that big a deal, to advocating complete clean room...

    Snake and Mongoose Movie

Has anybody seen this yet? I watched it last night, it was OK. I actually liked the documentary on the disk better. I remember this as a kid. I always had a lot of respect for Don Prudhomme, heck all of them really. I think it was a story that needed to be told.
