    Shell Rotella T-5 in a bike ?

Thanks for the comments. Close to what I expected. The bike is a 2007 Honda VFR800 Interceptor. Honda manual and shop manual both show 10W-30 as the "preferred" oil, with the typical 10W-40, 15W-40 and 20W-50 being "acceptable" clause. Most of the new Honda products now call for 10W-30. I have...

    Valvoline Dino 20w50?

For what it is worth.... I have run a lot of Valvoline products in cars and bikes (petro oils) and never ever had a problem or bad UOA. I am not claiming it is the best oil you can buy, but unless you are severely abusive or racing, I would have zero concerns. ANY decent, major brand 20W-50 is...

    Shell Rotella T-5 in a bike ?

Just curious... apologize if this has been posted before.... Has anyone run Shell Rotella T-5 10W-30 in their bike with a wet clutch? I know the T-6 is rated JASO MA, but the T-5 shows no JASO MA rating. The diesel certifications look pretty much the same and it doesn't show to be energy...

    E-10 personal experiences

I have run lots of the E-10 in my 2007 Honda VFR800 Interceptor. Mostly the midgrade 89 octane. No problems, even with the bike loaded up heavy for long highway trips. That said, I use NO ethanol if I can get it and run Stabil or other fuel stabilizer almost the year around. Winter storage is...

You can only store your bike with Amsoil oil in it

Wow...... the fact that Amsoil doesn't police their distributors says something negative about Amsoil. They make a decent product and I have used it, but that kind of B.S. associated with their product name has the potential to have them paying legal bills. That is a good way to make people who...

KTM recommends 10w-50, looking for options

Hi... I can't "tell you" what oil to run, but I can tell you my experiences. First, as a previous KTM owner, I have to say a couple of things. 1.) KTM makes a very high quality product. 2. They are nuts in two areas. Seats: (they seem to think granite or concrete are good for seat material!!)...

    4 stroke vs 2 stroke

Short version: Yes, the new 4 strokes are high maintenance. Adjustments are critical and you need to be moderately skilled or expect to pay a dealer. If the bike is TRULY not run in a race mode, they will definitely go a lot farther between maintenance, but the new full on racing 4 strokes...

Fogging the engine prior to storage?

Count me in with: "good idea, yes." "Absolutely, critical?.... probably not." ...unless in really LONG term storage. There are rust inhibitors in true fogging oil. If the bike is in a relative constant temp setting it is less critical. What is bad is when the bike (a large mass of metal) gets...

    Low Oil Temp

I would suspect you will have good success with that Delo 30 Wt. I am not intimately familiar with that oil....but it seems to me it was not API certified for gasoline engines.... True or false? I don't know how much difference that actually makes in the real world. Probably a few more additives...

    Clarification on Rotella JASO-MA "Certification"

For whatever it is worth: Shell Oil is a very credible company. Motorcycle lubrication is a MICROSCOPIC part of their sales....the last thing they would do is lie about an oil specification for a motorcycle and set themselves up for a false advertising claim. I suspect they decided to put MA on...

    Low Oil Temp

It is your bike and your call, but I sure would not go 6,000 miles on ANY oil in a motorcycle with a shared transmission/engine design. Whether you use a mono-grade or a multi, the oil in a bike takes a beating in the gear box and with the wet clutch. Oil is VERY CHEAP compared to the cost of...

street bike tires - bias ply or radial?

You didn't identify the specific model of Buell so can't make a specific reply, however, almost always, you are best off to replace with the TYPE of tire that came O.E. on the bike because the fork spring rates, shock dampening rates, etc. are based on the tire characteristics and weight. i.e...

    Ducati Multistrada 1200 S Touring

The ball is really in your court !! You MUST spend some time researching both bikes AND the reputation of your local dealer or the BEST dealer within range. Be sure you know up front what dealers charge for routine maintenance. The good news is both bike will serve you well with proper care...

    First roadbike - 2006 Honda 599 (Hornet)

Nice!! You will enjoy that bike. I cannot figure out why those didn't sell better in North America. They are very popular in Europe and make a really fun city bike.

    VR1 20w50 in sportbikes

I have run Shell Rotella T-6 for some time in several bikes: a Honda XR250 dirt bike, 80cc Honda dirt bike, 750 Honda Shadow cruiser and my VFR800 Interceptor. Zero issues that I could note and the oil gets a pretty good work out in the 250 dirt bike clutch during off road riding; Never had a...

    2007 Yamaha V Star 1100 Oil recomendation

I would think summer temperatures in Ontario should be fairly mild; I would not be afraid of the Delo 15W-40 at all in your bike. It is good oil. I run it in both of my bikes, an '07 Honda Interceptor and a Shadow. Zero problems and the Blackstone analysis on the Interceptor look great/no...

    Found some old Yamalube 2t

FYI: A couple of months ago, one of the guys at Blackstone labs did a new oil analysis of VERY old oils. (The article may still be on their website.) Short version: all the old oils ALL met spec. and were fine. If the oil is of a specification that can be used in a machine, it should work just fine.

2012 Ninja 250R oil and other questions

To yaris0128: Respectfully: I don't understand your logic. You say you just got a brand new motorcycle (worth several THOUSAND dollars) but you want to use the cheapest oil reasonably available..... Why would you not want to use a GOOD, high quality oil for your new bike? Seems like a classic...

    Castrol 4T Dino

sm00thpapa: If you have a new bike, you probably would see some minor/marginal benefit in making the second oil change a fair amount earlier than 4,000 miles. You will likely see that there will still be a LOT of "discoloration" and "micro-junk" in the oil at the second change. From what I have...

    New Bike Questions???

I learned a long time ago not to get dragged into a debate over some inane issue (like oil filters) that apparently has gone "emotional" with some poster. Those who are the "loudest" and most caustic on an internet forum often have the least factual data. Nobody is "spreading lies". Car54, you...
