Subaru FB oil burning update; new threshold

Are the cylinders nitrated on the Subaru engines? The reason I'm asking, because I had a 2012 BMW R1200 motorcycle, w/the Boxster engine, and it took a long time to seat the rings on it, because of the cylinders being nitrated. On average it took between 6000 to 6500 miles on the engine to get...

Subaru FB oil burning update; new threshold

Are the issues mainly w/engines w/automatic transmissions, or do they include those w/manuals as well? The reason I ask, w/a manual, people then to use the engine to slow down, by down shifting. I would think this helps in seating the rings better. I just bought a new 2015 Crosstrek, w/a...

Castrol 0W-40 European Synth Oil, made in Belgium

I just noticed in an O'Riley Auto Parts store, a new Castrol 0W-40 European Synthetic Oil, which is made in Belgium. Anyone know if this is as good as the 0W-30 German Made Castrol? Is it a "REAL" Synthetic oil, or just cracked mineral base? I'd like to use it in my Fiat Abarth engine, if it...

Fuel Stabilizer for Three Month's of Storage?

I'm getting my '10 Mini Cooper's oil/filter changed for it's winter storage tomorrow. The storage will probably be for around three (3) months or so. I also plan to fill the fuel tank. I use Chevron gasoline. Question, do I need to add a fuel stabilizer in the tank for just three (3) month's...

Best API Grp IV+ Synthetic Oil for a '13 Jeep 3.6L

Well I ended up replacing both the oil and filter today. Looking at the replaced oil filter, it was very clean. The oil/filter change turned out not to cost me anything, since the first oil change is free. I'm told that they don't use break in oil on these new Pentastar engines. .

Best API Grp IV+ Synthetic Oil for a '13 Jeep 3.6L

Thanks for everyone's input. With close to 1000 miles on my 3.6L Pentistar engine, I'm having just the oil filter replaced tomorrow. The oil is still clean, so I'm keeping that in it for a while longer. Reason for the filter change, there's obviously going to be metal particles from the engine...
