    Synthetic goodness

I have this small oil-in compressor that I use for small tools, tire inflation, etc. I got a real deal on it------for a reason. Since I bought it 5 years ago, it's a great summertime compressor, but has never started without preheating in my unheated garage, in the winter. Last summer, looking...

    Early Triumph oils

My 1956 Triumph TRW requires straight weight SAE 20 for the primary chaincase and SAE 50 for the transmission. I cannot find straight weight oils anywhere in my little town. Has anyone used multiweight oils in these applications with any success?

    Brake slider pin lube ?

What are you all using to lube the slider pins on disc brake calipers. I know never-seize dries out, as does the silicon slider grease. What is best ?

    Lead Substitute

Howdy all. I have just acquired a very low mileage military Triumph motorcycle from the early 50s. I was wondering if there is a good lead substitute additive that I can use on this old engine?

    10 year anniversary

I can't believe I've been daily driving (summer only) this little gem for 10 years now. We've gone through 3 transmissions, and this is the third engine (third time's a charm), but I still never drive it without a big silly grin on my face. Reliable, quick, unique and just plain cool. This is...

    Toyota Matrix rear wiper.

Does anyone have a cheap source for rear wiper refills (2007 Toyota Matrix)? I refuse to pay $12 to the dealer for a thin strip of rubber.

    1956 Military Triumph oil ?

I am in the midst of a cosmetic restoration on a 1956 Triumph TRW with 1700 miles on the clock. This military 500cc sidevalve 2-cylinder engine is very low compression and will be used very little. My first inclination is to go synthetic (even my lawn mower and generator have Mobil 1 in them)but...

    1956 Triumph 500.

I just picked up an old Triumph military TRW and am mid way through a rebuild. The engine only has 1000 miles on it (as does the whole bike), so no rebuild is envisioned at this time. I do need to know what to use on these old seals? What oil is everyone using in these old engines?

    VW Diesel oil filters ?

It's getting really hard to get good spin-on filters for the old VW Diesels here in eastern Canada. I've always used Mann filters because of the heavier steel in the can. Does anyone else make a filter of this quality for these engines?

    VW Oil pan problem

Doing some work on my modified VW diesel in a 1981 Rabbit pickup. Part of it entails installing a new oil pan. I took the new pan to the powdercoater and he coated it inside as well. Is this kosher? Will it create problems later on?

    Oil Pan issues

Here's a question. I'm changing the turbo oil return on my VW diesel, and decided on a nice new pan. I also decided to get it powdercoated.....BUT....the coater decided to do the inside as well as the outside. When I complained, he stated he always does them like that and never had an issue...

    GM 383 stroker

I just put a 383 stroker in my 1968 Camaro, and it heats up sooooo fast. From dead cold to thermostat opening in about 90 seconds of idling. Is this normal for a completely new engine? It's OK at highway speeds, but slow speed causes the gauge to go up way too high for comfort. Any ideas would...

    Hi-Po Engine oil ?

A friend is building an aluminum-head 383 stroker for his 1968 Camaro, for street use. For some reason, his engine builder said he'd recommend against running synthetic oil in his engines...ever. He recommends only Valvoline Racing for the sreet. Would anyone have any idea why? Just wondering.

    Classic Triumph needs

I have just acquired a 1956 Triumph TRW military bike. I know the oil is shared by the engine and clutch, and that the seals are probably not compatible to synthetic oils. What oil does one use on these old bikes?

    Classic Dodge van

The wife wanted a small van to drive locally in the summer. Being an old car guy, I went looking and found a loaded, zero rust, VERY low mileage, elderly lady driven Dodge Caravan mini. It has the 2.2 4-cylinder and herein lies the problem. Is it safe to run synthetic in these old engines? I...

    VW Valve cover sealant ??

I have a Volkswagen with the AAZ turbodiesel. This engine has a valve cover held on bt 3 nots, and is notoriously hard to seal. Does anyone have a good sealant to use on the rubber gasket on this cover??

    Coolant for VW diesel ?

I have a 1981 Rabbit pickup and have just installed a highly modified 2 liter turbodiesel. What is the ideal coolant for this aluminum and cast iron engine? It is not driven in the winter, but kept in an unheated storage garage.

    W O W

I built a really VERY nice turbodiesel for my classic 1981 VW Rabbit Pickup. I broke it in nice and slow with 15-40 Rotella and all was well, though the oil temperature was a tad high. I just switched it over to Mobil 1 TDT and I can't believe the difference. The oil temperature stays 20 degrees...

    Away for the winter

Well, the time has come. I enjoyed the new torquemonster diesel this summer, but I got caught in a snow storm last fall, so I'm extra cautious this year. I gave her some nice fresh Mobil 1 TDT, a Mann filter and a good soak with Rust Check, then to bed for the winter. Sleep tight.

    Synthetic in an old Triumph

I have a low mileage 1956 Triumph TRW. Has anyone ever run synthetic in these old engines?
